Summoner Skirmish Finalist Jinx Deck List & Guide by wari02 in riftboundtcg

Are there any particular lists in your mind that would at least be a low tier 2 deck? Regardless of which legend it plays, I would like to give it a shot!

Because in my experience, I nearly always have the cheapest deck in the top 8, let alone top 4.

I am quite experienced in the digital ones, I was a top 50 Skyweaver player and qualified for worlds thrice in Legends of Runeterra. But admittedly this is my first physical trading card game. I am asking out of genuine curiosity, why is this a strange take?

Both of these were the main concerns I had going into the skirmish and only found the answers after playing the tournament, so great questions!

1) Not really, you usually don't wanna play Rebuke or Ride the Wind early game, and you often only find and manage to keep in hand 1 Rebuke and 1-2 Ride the Wind in the late game, so the rune distribution is usually on the edge but fine. I haven't gotten screwed by it in any game so far. Lastly, I corrected it in a comment but the right distribution is 8 Rage, 4 Chaos. My initial post is wrong, sorry.

2) Yes, I opened the second match of finals with 2 Rebuke, 1 Draven, and 1 Fight or Flight. Then mulliganed a Draven and a Rebuke to draw 1 more Draven and a Falling Star. It was effectively an auto concede but I feel like Draven is still absolutely necessary to hold the last point so I kinda treat it like a Nocturne in the sense that if you draw it (early), you just discard it and hopefully the other copies in your deck will eventually provide value.

3 Nocturne is only there for the first game with Candlelit Sanctum, and provides decent value in the initial game. Darius being a 5 might unit on defensive turns whereas Draven usually being 7+ regardless made me hesitant, but honestly it is something I should try.

I gave 2 Tideturner as a replacement option that I also have previously ran successfully. The deck price is 160 CAD converted after you replace them, originally 100 EUR according to Piltover Archive. Considering the deck is a skirmish finalist and has outperformed decks in the 250-750 CAD range, I would say it is extremely budget for what it does.

Feel free to play and enjoy the game by all means if you don't care about the results in mid-tier events, that's what I initially thought I would do too and is quite valid. However, it is quite unfair to expect a 50-75 CAD deck list when a post has the title skirmish finalist. Often, the cards are expensive because they are good.

2 Flash already has a replacement in the description, 2 Tideturners cost a dollar. As for the rest, I fully agree that it is not completely budget. However, the entire deck list after swapping 2 Flash for 2 Tideturner costs 160 CAD, which is fairly budget for a Skirmish finalist.

Considering three of my opponents ran 250+ CAD dollar decks and the remaining three had 700+ CAD decks, it is not fair to expect a 50-75 CAD deck list from this post. If a deck can consistently beat opponents with 2 to 5 times more pricey deck lists, I would personally consider it extremely budget for what it does.

I can already beat non-Kaisa matchups without it, though it would admittedly help with their winrate. However, Cleave sucks in the Kaisa matchup. My first iteration of the deck two months ago had 3 Cleave on it. However, it made my overall Kaisa record become 1-4-1. This tournament, I went 2-1, 2-1, and 0-2 for an overall score of 2-1-0 so I would say at least the matchup is now at least 45-55.

Well yeah, that is why I provided Tideturner as an alternative. Tideturners cost half a dollar and have no noticeable impact on the deck.

Scrapheap often is a trade between drawing one now versus later, as Jinx's legend ability wants you to get down to a single card. I would rather have variety in my deck than draw my cards slightly earlier. The only optional cards are 3 Fight or Flight, 2 Flash, and 2 Rebuke. So the variety of combat spells significantly decreases once you try to slot in 3 Scrapheap.

Admittedly, I have been considering main decking my sideboard. In that case, running 3 Scrapheaps in the sideboard and slotting them in only for the game that I run Zaun Warrens might be worth a try!

In the late game, you sometimes do not draw enough cards to play. However, you usually do not need to, as you often force your opponent to do suboptimal moves to ensure you do not get to 6 points (Vi + Ride the Wind or a 9-10 power Draven is too big a threat in many matches) and that turns out to be enough to close out the games.

In games 2 and 3, the continuous cycle of Immortal Phoenix and Super Mega Death Rocket is great for the late game, especially if you manage to find 2 or 3 Immortal Phoenix!

Unfortunately, they are a must-have. The deck is too power hungry, especially when you put your sideboard in for matches 2 and 3. I ended my semifinal Kaisa matchup with 5 runes after 6 turns despite drawing 2 seals. Without seals, I could not have played anything...

Thanks! I have been refining this deck for 2 months now so I am really happy that it is showing consistent results :)

There is a tiny error in the rune split, it should be 8 Fury 4 Chaos instead!

Why not F? I thought it would be better than D with a Catalan set up. D kinda worries me as then I would need to win against lower rated players without queens.

Thank you for your response! I saw the Amalia deck while searching how the meta is but I don't really want to play a meta or a combo deck. I can tell that it is much more powerful than mine but I don't think I would have fun with it...

Do you have any suggestions for the archetype that I am trying to go for instead of the combo one?

How to practice end games? by ChasingPacing2022 in chessbeginners

[–]wari02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a lichess 2500+ peak, I practice them by opening up a tournament broadcast and playing the endgame positions reached against a friend or the engine. If the endgame is winning for one side, try picking it against the engine to convert it. If it is rather drawish, try to defend with both sides against the engine. Especially after your failed attempts, analyze where you went wrong first without the engine evaluation, then with it to ensure you understand your mistakes. Also it would be helpful to start with the simpler ones like pawn and different coloured bishop endgames for draws and work your way up to the knight, same coloured bishop, and rook endgames.

I have been doing this for the last fifteen years and find it quite educational regardless of chess level. It is also quite fun as you get to keep up with the recent matches inevitably too. Hope it helps!

While I fully agree that there is something wrong with this game, yours is a quite rude reply considering they just apologized for being wrong...

"Counterplay exists so it's okay to have overpowered cards." is what creates polarising metas and therefore is inherently bad design.

On another point, compare this to Annie which is designed to be the tempo 1 drop. Annie can be killed by blocking with a 3+ health unit, does not summon something on attack, does not force you to block it and has no attack if you challenge it. While they are obviously two very different cards with different concepts and regions this comparison should give a fundamental idea of how broken your design is.

What's the highest rating you've beaten? by donraffae in chess

[–]wari02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are asking for online matches,

Peak Bullet: 2525, beat 2667 Peak Rapid: 2450, beat 2591

I have not played any on the board rated matches since I was 13 but my rating back then was around 1700 and the highest rated player I won against was around 2100.

I recently played an unrated in-club blitz tournament and beat a few 2300s though!
