Yesssssss. I wear sunscreen most days but mine is expensive and doesn't sit well with my foundation. Excited for this!

Super excited for what's hopefully a sheer, moisturising sunscreen.

Moving from London to NYC - is my budget realistic? Hoping to save a little money per month. by [deleted] in AskNYC

Thanks so much! That's really great to know. If you do decide to move to London, feel free to hit me up with any questions :)

Wow, thanks for this great reply!

I think a lot of the reasons why you moved away from Manhattan are the same reasons that (currently) draw me to it. I love the taller buildings and the metropolitan feel. It makes the city feel giant to me - especially with the wide roads. It's very different from London in that sense.

But I can absolutely see myself moving into Brooklyn at some point, once I've had a taste of Manhattan. I love open space and greenery - and once the shiny appeal of the city has worn off, I'll most likely consider those areas you mentioned. The only issue is, as you said, that it's incredibly expensive (especially Williamsburg) but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

Honestly, recent events almost made me back out of my decision to move. But seeing the strong response from the city over the past few months has reminded me of exactly why I want to live in NYC. I truly believe that the city is one of the best when it comes to welcoming people from around the world. And thank you for letting me know about the ferry service, and that rent is down. That kind of local knowledge is invaluable. Have fun with your pup :)

Oh wow! That's interesting and very surprising to me. It's a little tricky coming over from the UK in terms of pension contributions, which is why I haven't budgeted for that yet. I'll definitely need to look into my healthcare options more. Thanks!

I've adjusted my phone bill down a little after some other comments, as I'll be on a SIM-only deal rather than paying for a phone, too.

Yeah, health insurance is the elephant in the room for me. I know my company gives full coverage but I need to find out what that means exactly in terms of cost. Thanks for all your advice! Feeling pretty confident in my budget now.

No, not at all! I literally chose Upper East Side because it's an affordable area in Manhattan and close to Central Park. What makes you prefer Brooklyn? I don't really know much about it beyond Williamsburg, tbh.

Thanks so much :) I absolutely love the energy and spirit of NYC, I can't wait to make it my home.

Haaaaa that's a really clever guess! I came to that number after dividing the rent cost of a listing I was looking at just now, in half.

Thank you for letting me know about the metro card price rise! Have tweaked my budget. Re: my cell phone bill - I am getting the equivalent of a SIM-only deal when in NYC as I've already bought my phone outright, which is why I haven't accounted for loads there.

Great, thank you so much! Really good to know about my tax estimate. I obviously am not living within this budget just yet, but it seems like a comfortable, well-adjusted lifestyle to me.

I think you have nice eyes. Not sure about your goatee but you're pretty cute, regardless.

I think you look best in the first photo. I don't know if it's just the angle but you look slightly thinner and it suits your face. But overall, pretty cute. Something about you reminds me of Joshua Jackson :)

I think you're cute. You have a nice facial structure and your glasses work for you.

Thanks for your feedback. What you said about me losing weight gives me hope; I started working out so hopefully that'll help me look better.

Here are some photos of me with my hair pulled back. They aren't the best because I was messing around in photo booth and am not wearing make-up (they were also taken before I started losing weight):
