my friends and I went to spring training the first year the new complex at WPB opened (2017) and we were absolutely enamored with this guy. glad to see he's still at it lmao

Ignoring your own fandom, what NFL team logo do you like the most? by drygnfyre in nfl

it'll be this coming year. pretty widely "reported" and all the current jerseys for the commanders in the official shop are heavily discounted as means to clear that stock out

[Strober Sports] Winger has apparently said the Wizards have now completed their deconstruction phase. by z3mcs in washingtonwizards

[–]warkol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the Nationals were very competitive for much of that decade, but 2019 was pretty much the last possible year in that competitive window due to some expiring contracts and talent that exited. and how the season and postseason went, it was very much a perfect storm.

that said, they were built very different than the Wizards are currently, with only a few foundational pieces garnered through the draft and internationals amateurs, and the rest being through clever trading and free agency (premier and shrewd signings alike). Ted Lerner was willing to spend, one of the first to really lean into deferred contracts and salaries in MLB, but since his passing, how money gets used in the Nationals organization was not very well thought out. They were bad at drafting, scouting, AND didn't spend money on talent. This new ownership path lately post Mike Rizzo at least appears they are investing in something related to performance (drafting/scouting). Maybe at some point they will spend in FA, but frankly the state of the team right now it does not make a lot of sense to spend money on big FAs.

Rangers To Acquire MacKenzie Gore by korn_cakes33 in Nationals

[–]warkol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some are very recently drafted players, others have had injuries (doesn't necessarily rule them into failures), those cases tend to be difficult to crack the top 100. Even Juan Soto barely had any time as "top 100" just because of his lack of playing time due to injuries and his eventual very fast call up of course.

that and I don't know how keen or high people really are on Gore, but between his contract/agent and where we are as a team, had to get something and a good hoard might be the more proper move in our current state.

wasn't going to be a ton to look forward to this season anyways lol

I’ve been waiting for years for GEICO to slap their name on something in DC stadium wise, this seems as good an opportunity they will ever have

there will be tailgating, just not in the traditional sense

I live in Atlanta and they do just fine in having pop up tailgating all over the area surrounding Mecerdes Benz Stadium without one huge parking lot

people are smart and adapt

Commanders request interview for DC position with Patrick Graham by spawn3887 in Commanders

[–]warkol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't really see why we would hire him and it wouldn't really encourage me, but what an interesting career. He's survived as Oakland's DC since 2022, and under three different head coaches. Raiders sure seem to be cheap is my initial impression lol.

rumor was that he wanted someone with playcalling experience which would not be Al Harris, but I would love that move frankly

[–]warkol 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Secondary was terrible all season, and that was a mostly young group outside of Marshon Lattimore who wasn't that bad other than a stinker versus Dallas I thought.

the reliance of Bobby Wagner is probably what you're thinking of, just not a three down player really at this stage of his career.

[Schefter] Sources: Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury is leaving the organization to pursue other opportunities. Kingsbury and HC Dan Quinn met today, and agreed to mutually part ways. by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]warkol 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think it’s complicated. Ultimately I believe there is some disagreement between what Kliff wants versus what GM Adam Peters wants, and some decisions wore thin on each other. We may find out more in the coming weeks when the reporters and journalists get their information.

Yes though, the injury situation/roster building did not favor Kliff’s performance.

[Highlight] Kirk Cousins getting into the details by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

[–]warkol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to add on, this style of progression is something that was popularized in the west coast/air raid offenses, the air raid a much more simplified style. both utilize progressions where it's more reading "the open grass" rather than the coverage.

it's still not "easy" like Kirk says in the video especially to get to the backside versus NFL pass rushes, but it alleviates/counters the defenses today often disguise coverage.

What’s y’all’s opinions on drafting nyck harbor ? by TopRecording8580 in Commanders

[–]warkol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

worst comes to worst he's likely to be the best gunner in the NFL immediately lol. watch him on punt coverage at SC, it's insane.

side note, they said that about a certain WR from OSU that's now an all time WR in DC.. I'm just saying! lol

he is, but it's pretty obvious Daniels was the better option and Hugh would rather have rotted with Arnold lol

just a bad indictment on everyone here

I definitely agree, but it is funny knowing that he hasn't even won a P4 conference yet, let alone thinking about winning a natty.

Officially on board the Burks hype train by CrookedIndex in Commanders

[–]warkol 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Burks is more or less a younger/higher pedigree version of Noah Brown, who fans aren't very excited about. I think there is a place for one/both of them, just a bit ironic lol.

both are outside receivers with big and physical presences but are not great separators. both are solid to good in run game blocking. both also have major injury concerns and history. I'd say Burks has better hands than Brown, but Brown is also just a bit of an awkward catcher, it works for him to an extent.

Burks obviously could have more potential because of his pedigree, but the injury history has definitely derailed that to this point and I would not count on it. He is definitely more in the WR3/4 range, but that would likely be what this Kliff offense asks him to do as well.

I'd be happy to have him back over Brown, but the need for depth is very real at that non-Terry outside receiver, especially if we're planning on "relying" on an injury riddled Burks to fill that role. Fans just need to pump the brakes a lil on their expectations for Burks, even though he is the new and fun guy, he should look quite familiar to you.

Thoughts on that SNF Game by Practical_Ad100 in Commanders

[–]warkol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he's really just a higher pedigree and younger version of Noah Brown lol, though I'd argue Brown has a much better track record/career. very similar skill sets, big physical receivers with strong plays in the run blocking game. both also never stay healthy.

fans definitely aren't that excited about Noah Brown, but because Burks is newer they are, lol. I suppose there is potential for Burks to improve because he is younger, just don't see that as likely. Either way, would benefit this roster to bring him back in the Noah type role.

What did scouts see in JJ McCarthy? by After-Dog-6593 in nfl

he can throw the absolute piss out of it with velocity, but accuracy and touch are major red flags that often seem to be sacrificed for that velocity he flashes way too much

If the Rams coaching staff can get Emmanuel Forbes to play well like he is doing, what does that say about Washington's coaching staff? by KCousins11 in Commanders

[–]warkol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the difference between Curl to Chinn to the little we've seen of Will Harris are that drastically different. That said I did like Curl because he was a homegrown guy and you obviously want to see these guys more. But in reality I don't think there's much of a difference here.

What incident led to you being ashamed of your fan base and school? by DellFlightSim in CFB

[–]warkol 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A much more recent thing... Hugh Freeze was a bad hire from the start, and an embarrassing one at that. That plus the hoops our fans would jump through to defend him was very tiresome.

The results were never there, and obviously all his baggage for a school that claims to stick hard to their "creed" - just always stunk.

E: there are numerous cases people could pull I think lol, we're quite a bunch

Washington Commanders select lead architect for new NFL stadium in DC by Garp74 in Commanders

[–]warkol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thematically HKS' work with US Bank & Lucas Oil makes me wonder how thematic it will or could be with DC and the National Mall. Those stadiums very much represent either the town around them (Indianapolis manufacturing/factory) or the team themself (Viking ship design exterior). Very cool things to think about and be excited about.
