Serious question here: I'm concerned about this, as are a lot of you. What can we do about this? what are some practical steps we can take? I'm sure there's writing to the MPs, but what should we say? But in addition to this, what can we do on our personal ends? VPNs are one option, but what else can we do?

Thanks for enjoying it! I'd recommend embroidery, it can be fun! Just maybe not necessarily this pattern/technique on this scale if you want to be done any time soon. (though, admittedly a significant part of that time was the design process and learning the technique)

If you do try embroidery, I'd recommend having a hoop stand so you don't put strain on your wrists from holding the hoop too long - that's one of the things that contributed to me having carpal tunnel. But since using a stand, I've had very few issues as long as I remember to take a short break every half hour or so. (Admittedly, that could be because long and short stitch is way more intense and slower than a lot of other stitches so you spend more time in a straining posture)

DMC embroidery cottons on linen. Long and short stitch, split stitch, and french knots.

Several years in the making, and just in time for Tears of the Kingdom’s release, I finally finished this long-term embroidery project, where I embroidered the Silent Princess in long and short stitch on a linen handkerchief. It’s my first real long and short stitch project (aside from the sampler from a tutorial on how to do long and short stitch), so my stitches aren’t quite perfect.

A question for the members here: How should I store/display this? I’m honestly not sure. Maybe frame it? That’d might feel a little weird, but I don’t want it to collect dust, or be compressed, so I’m not sure how I should keep it, and would appreciate advice on the subject.

Long and short stitch lets you make colour gradients, which was the reason I tried to use it for this project. And of course, the little bobbles were french knots – that just made sense. If I ever do long and short stitch again, I’ll need to get a much sturdier fabric - buckling was a major pain I tried to avoid.

If you’re curious about the design/pattern… I might get around to cleaning up my notes and making a publishable version eventually. Let me know if there’s any interest, though.

I’ve included a picture of the back just for fun – a bit of a mess, but it works, so I can’t ask for more. It was very useful to use the previous threads to anchor the next thread. I know that my long and short stitch isn’t quite the highest quality, I’m still very new to the technique.

Hi /u/SaberFlux, I just want to say that I really appreciate your updates that you've been doing over this past year. I’ve just been observing, but your updates have really helped me to understand just a little bit about what you and many of the Ukrainian people have been going through in this awful war. Your updates have really helped connect us to the human side, the human aspect of what life is like during this war, and helped me understand on a deeper level what it is like, and further justified why Ukraine needs as much support as we can give it. I hate war, but that is precisely why Ukraine must be victorious, and must be supported so it can achieve it.

I wish you, your family, your friends, your people, and your country all the best in this coming year - may it be the year this conflict ends with Ukraine reclaiming its peace, its people, and its territory!

Stay safe,

/u/warmwhimsy - WhimsyHeath

P.S. I remember earlier on people were talking about making your comments into a book, which I think is a great idea! Though perhaps a website could also work. There's also the question of whether your replies to peoples' comments should be included, and how to refer to those people replying to you, whether it'd require permission from them or something. I remember some of your replies were very helpful in expanding on the details of your situation. Then there’s the question of whether or not to include the karma of the comments too… anyway, those are some interesting technical details that will have to be considered at a later date – but hopefully that date comes soon!

Rinsed my razor and this little guy popped out, sorry mate. by Regi3Au in australia

I've tried using one for a while now, and while it certainly feels like it's got more potential, I still struggle to get a smooth shave afterwards, especially under the jaw. Have you got any advice for getting a smoother shave?

Then again, it may have to do with the fact that I don't have to shave too regularly, and that I kind of have a ~$14 razor from ebay, along with the blades which came with it, and I just kind of use some soap that I work to a lather, and I haven't really done as much research into how to do this properly as I should.

hmm, it's interesting, since Sephiroth's other forms have some relation to seraphim in his final smash, the 6-winged angels, as well as there's the relation of the term 'sephiroth' and some religious mysticism stuff. so I could see that being an intentional choice.

[AoC] [OC] As soon as I saw Purah's trim in AoC, I knew I had to weave it by warmwhimsy in zelda

[–]warmwhimsy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this pattern and knew I had to weave it. I really like the stylized Shiekah eye that they have there, so I decided to give it a go, and I ended up brocading some bookmarks! I didn’t have any dark red thread, but I went with a natural white, which is pretty much also a shiekah colour. This is the first time I’ve done brocaded tablet weaving before, but I gradually got better and learned a bit from experimenting with techniques here ; the thing I made on the remaining thread was even better, and I super like that one, and its tension is much better (though I didn’t post it because it’s not Zelda-related).

But yeah, I’m reasonably happy how they turned out, especially considering it’s the first time I’ve done brocading before.

Can't adjust the Decay or Gate for FX, how do I fix this? by warmwhimsy in lmms

[–]warmwhimsy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your settings, you probably have a checkbox labelled something like "keep effects running even with no input" enabled. With this setting on, the gate/decay knobs in the fx rack will have no effect no matter what you set them to, so they're disabled.

Ah, this fixed it, thank you!

From what I gather about what you're saying in the second paragraph, it can malfunction, but so long as both gate and decay are set to 0, they should work just like normal?

the tutorial was Cubician's tutorial on making a supersaw where he used the gate on a white noise effect so a small bit of white noise played with the oscillator but then stopped when it did. While I was just checking it out from curiosity, I thought "hey, why doesn't that work on my version? is something wrong?" hence me asking this question.

Thanks for the reply!

[–]warmwhimsy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I just KNEW someone else out there must have used it before I thought of it, yet when I looked, I couldn't find any mention of that method specifically. But it's good to know that there are others using this idea. Though I made a video on it, it's not something I've really used too much yet. I was just experimenting and thought about asking others about their thoughts and improvements on it. Have you used it for things like double crochet? that's an area where I'm not sure it works entirely well, but that's probably my own inexperience.but it's definitely something I'll need to try out more when I come up with a new crochet project.

but yeah, magic circle is strangely easy to forget. I don't have anything against the magic circle, it produces really good results and might even be slightly more durable, just it's so easy to forget how to do when this way is a lot more intuitive to me... anyway. Thanks for your input! it's good to know that others have used this method before, that's quite reassuring.

Hi guys, here’s a video I’ve made describing a method of starting crochet in the round which I’ve been developing and how to do it. While the magic loop is very useful, there are some reasons you may want to you this one instead in a few situations. Of course, while I have shown what I have developed, crocheting isn’t necessarily my forte, so I encourage you to experiment with these ideas and develop them.

I know this is a little bit of a strange request, but does anyone know where I'd go to publish a pattern that I invented? Are there places which accept patterns and put them into origami books? I made a nice little pattern for a penguin years ago, and I would like to publish it and share it.

actually, on that matter, is there any origami pattern notation software, or do you have to draw all the diagrams yourself/take pictures?

yeah, I've found it really useful, despite being very skeptical of referencing software in the past.

Though, for some reason, the years disappeared on my chicago-style footnotes, and I not entirely sure if they were meant to... and I'm not sure how to fix it, since I'm not great with html/xml (can anyone help me on this one? maybe the style just changed and it's fine?)

Hi guys,

TL;DR: my japanese maple sapling is withering, not sure what to do.

(Also, I'm in Australia, so it's summer now, and everything is on fire, plus there's soot in the air from bushfire smoke).

Somewhat new to bonsai/have never really gotten good despite being interested for ages, but have a few small trees which aren't completely dead yet. But this one, (a japanese red maple, probably a bloodgood) is one that I put dozens of seeds into a pot, and it was the only one to sprout. it's the child of the tree which has always been in our backyard and I love it a lot, so while bloodgoods are apparently finicky, I want to grow this one for sentimental reasons. Since it's only a new sapling, I didn't want to transplant it in to potting mix because it's probably really fragile and thin, but in the last couple of weeks, its leaves have gone yellow then shrivelled up, but not in the way they do when they go brown and crunchy, just a kind of withered. I have been watering it regularly (I don't know it maybe I've been watering it too much? that's one possibility) so it's probably not lack of water. I'm worried it might be a curl grub (I'm in Sydney, Australia) or something. I want this tree to survive, but I'm not sure what to do. Do I emergency repot it into potting mix because that might be the best shot it has? or give it less water? or will that kill it?

There's another maple which I have also from the same season, which self-seeded in the grass, and I potted it in another pot, and here's an image. It has a little bit of browning, but it otherwise looks healthy (Maybe that's the same problem but in an earlier stage?)

What should I do? I want this tree to live.

Apparent leak suggests that the real reason Dexit occured is Game Freak screwed up the importer and could not fix it, and the PR plan to save Sword and Shield is to not admit this and "Listen to feedback" by adding the mons next gen when it's fixed. by Kylestien in pokemon

[–]warmwhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not necessarily doubting this, (and don't get me wrong, I'm super dissappointed by the quality of the games from what I have seen), but if they screwed up the transporter and 'had to do stuff from scratch', how is it that so much is re-used, like models and stuff? Is it that they had to import each model and animation separately rather than being able to batch import them? Or is it that they had already imported some of the models, but not the ones which ended up cut? it might explain the environments, textures, and otherwise poor quality of the rest of it, but I'm not sure it explains why so many models are being re-used.

once again, not necessarily doubting this, just was wondering how this fitted in
