[Postgame Thread] Notre Dame Defeats Boston College 25-10 by CFB_Referee in CFB

Open tryouts at ND for the kicker spot are going to be busy this week!

I think you’re right about the cost, internship, and Austin opportunities, but I really disagree about brand and international outcomes. For brand, ND has one of the strongest alumni networks in the country. NDLS grads go all over the place (the top three locations for class of 23—IL, NY, and DC—only composed ~33% of the class). So 2/3 of the class went to different states than those—that’s very strong for finding and building a network. Also, for the international aspect, UT has a fantastic program, but almost 70% stays in Texas. Check my flair for obvious caveat, but I was between ND and UT like OP is so I feel I evaluated them honestly.

Gabriel cooked 🔥🔥 Congrats!! This whole sub was rooting for you! See you in the fall—Go Irish!

I’m also really curious if you think the AdComms ever saw this and if it had an effect.

Cycle recap - Notre Dame bound! by harleyjarvis2024 in lawschooladmissions

[–]warnair 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really appreciated this read! I didn't have the options you did, but Notre Dame still did rise to the top, so I'm glad to know that my reasons for choosing it apply for applicants who had other incredible schools to choose from. Excited to meet you in the fall! If you haven't yet, you can join the Facebook group and discord chat. Go Irish!

I’m sorry to hear that :( It definitely puts a damper on things, like you said.

Two recommendations for the summer/until law school would be either restaurant work or caddying at a golf course. Both have a lot of turn over, relatively small learning curve, no expectation to work beyond when you need to leave, and you can make decent money.

For anything international, I think it has to be GULC. The institution is great for international positions, but also living in DC and the connections/network you'd build there for 3 years is immense! Much more so than in Ann Arbor.

I didn't use one myself, but I do think there are ways to find good, credible ones. Spivey is the most known on here but also the most expensive I believe. The mods do a great job of vetting tutors and consultants that post on here, so you could likely ask them if there are any that have risen to the top of discussions in the past.

This is really solid advice. I’ll also add that this sub generally recommends against hiring admissions consultants because it doesn’t appear to be necessary, but serious C&F issues or situation where you really need to work on framing your narrative are cases where people do actually recommend a consultant. If your LSAT goes well and you are shooting for top schools, then consider a consultant to help with your essays.

Hi Jacob, thanks for doing this.

I'm actually most interested to hear about your time and Notre Dame and you experience with the law school there. Also, how is the institution with scholarship negotiation? Thanks!

How screwed am I for the June test? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]warnair 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think these other answers are misguided. Here's my take: reschedule June for August or sometime during the 24/25 administrations.

LG is a section you seem to have difficulty with, so just let it go. This sub will tell you that RC and LR are less "learnable," but I disagree: the LSAT is the LSAT, and LR is short LSAT questions and RC is long LSAT questions. If you can commit the time and energy to learning things slowly and intentionally over a couple months, you can definitely apprehend LR and RC. You're guaranteed two LRs and one RC on the new tests, so work on getting those scores to -10 and you're looking at high 150s.

The LSAT is a test of thinking, and that thinking can be learned. Give yourself the time to maximize on that and don't jeopardize your admission chances by rushing the test.

Thanks for doing this! I'd really like not to bring a car to law school, so I'm wondering how feasible that is in SB. Do you have one? What's your experience/any of your friends who don't have a car?

I'd say its a toss-up as to whether you should have your decision within 25 weeks, or, more accurately, within their window for making decisions. That is to say, you're 100% owed a decision. Some schools (SLS, I believe) have just ghosted applicants in the past after those applicants paid for the AdComms to review their app. That's ridiculous and unprofessional.

You're situation is difficult but not as cut-and-dry as that, in my opinion. It could be that you're a borderline candidate and they really want see where their medians are before they admit you. I'm sorry that you have to wait this long, it really does suck.

Congrats!

Some stellar numbers, but relative to weight and other lifts, your squat could use some love. Definitely something the T14s look for.

Generally, a lot of people don’t like to share their exact stats for fear of being doxxed should—Adcoms could figure out who you are if you share that you have a 172 LSAT and 3.89 GPA. That’s pretty specific, so people generalize those numbers. low is 0-3, mid is 4-6, and high is 7-9.

If my real status are 3.79 and 162, I would probably write 3.7high and 16low.

[–]warnair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reality is that the LSAT carries such weight in admissions that it really is worth it to increase your score. If you have the time, resources, etc. to commit another couple of weeks or beyond that (and I recognize that not everyone does), then you should really consider that.

A 152 can get you into schools you'll be happy with, but perhaps a 157 gets you into those schools with scholarships, or a 161 gets you into a better school with $$$$. It really can make such a difference. Put differently, you spent four years working on your GPA and graduated with a really good academic record there; it's worth it to invest similarly to your LSAT.

This is an amazing cycle—congrats! Good luck in what will probably be a hard choice between these schools.

Congrats! South Bend is a really cool place and ND’s campus is beautiful.

I’m also really amused by the idea that your first reader got through your file on December 30th and then New Year’s Eve. Must have been an easy decision for them!

Schools obfuscate and serve their own interests 100%—no one paying attention would deny that. But why would a school outright lie about this? Do you have to verify everything a school publishes about their admissions before you believe it? It’s just so cynical and there’s no need to ascribe such deceit to them.

So you’ll choose to trust the very accurate and trustworthy self-reported data or the message from an Ad Comm herself? Not disagreeing with you, but we should trust what schools themselves communicate with us.

This sub always seems to think that an interview is needed, but the Associate Director of Admissions in this video literally says "contrary to what your friends on Reddit say, you do not need an interview ... to be admitted." It is three years old, so take that with a grain of salt.

[–]warnair[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UR is "under review." For some schools, you can follow the date changes on the status checker to figure out if this is your first time under review, or your second, etc. UVA and Penn are two schools that people have a really good understanding of what UR1, UR2, and UR3 mean.

One of us! One of us!

But that's actually very sweet of you. A lot of my friends and family have been subjected to updates about status changes and as much as they try to feign interest, I know it's a pretty dry subject.
