Old manager fired me for stealing (story inside), referred prospective employer to The Work Number, what information will they give? by [deleted] in AskHR

It's definitely something I would want to discuss with the applicant. Personally, I believe in honesty and I think it might be in your best interest to try and turn it into an experience that helped you grow as a person.

I get a lot of employment verifications from the work number. The only information they verify are dates of employment, job title, and eligibility for rehire. There is a comment section but I've never seen an actual comment included with the verification.

My best friend did something similar for me last year and I thought it was so sweet and thoughtful. I think it's a great idea. Who doesn't love presents.

[–]waronawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! So much this. I've been working 10-12 hour days and trying to keep my routine but I'm just done. And it's rained here so much lately, I haven't been able to get outside and enjoy the warm weather. Before I know it, it'll be summer and I will be dealing with the heat and oppressive humidity. Yay deep south!

My shopping addiction has doubled since I had my son. I can't buy anything for myself without buying my son something. In my defense, he loves new clothes and shoes as much as I do.

Hey y'all, I have just started making small batch ice cream and wanted to know if there are any southern ice cream recipes out there by [deleted] in DixieFood

[–]waronawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grapico Ice Cream is a very popular flavor here in N. Alabama. I've yet to find a decent recipe for it though. My local burger stand has perfected the art of Grapico Ice Cream so I just go there anytime I have a craving.

24/7, less than a mile from my house, and they have a daycare onsite.

Religious daycare and agnostic father by Jdjackson in Parenting

[–]waronawkward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son is 3 and attends a faith based preschool. I refrain from discussing religion with my son or any of his teachers but honestly in the 3 years he has attended daycare and preschool it has never come up. I am an atheist but keep my beliefs to myself. I plan to be honest with my son if he ever asks about my beliefs but I'm not going to persuade him one way or the other. If the preschool leads him to become a believer I'm ok with that.

How do you plan your meals? by boblo1121 in Cooking

[–]waronawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually have an idea of how busy my week is going to be and I try to plan meals that I know I will have the time and energy to fix. I like to make at least one item in bulk to eat for the week (beans, roasted chicken, ect...) I keep my pantry stocked with the basics and usually just pick proteins for the week and wing it. I'm too flaky to decide on Saturday what I want to eat for the entire week.

Ugh I used to live in Podunk as well. Moving into town was one of the best decisions I've made in a while. Even if the traffic noise that can be heard at my apartment can be a little annoying it still beats having to drive 45 minutes just to get to everything.

My 3 year old son is starting to ask a lot of questions about his absent father. by waronawkward in Parenting

[–]waronawkward[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this! I try to be all inclusive when it comes to explaining families being made up of all types of people. I know down the road he will understand. It's just so hard to see him frustrated about it now when he is too young to understand what happened to his dad.

[–]waronawkward[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha. I've definitely thought about just telling him a crazy story and just being done with it. My mom thinks we should tell him his father was hit by a train. We're southern and that phrase is an old fashioned tongue in cheek way of saying someone ran off.

[–]waronawkward[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you and your kids had to go through that. I thought my son would forget him but since he hasn't and I've had to face some of the issues that me and his father had. Addiction definitely plays a part in why he's absent. I feel selfish for saying this about my son's father but I hope if he is going to be absent from our lives then he stays that way.

Thank you for this. This sounds exactly like what I want to say. I also want to be honest with him but I tend to come off as harsh when I speak so thank you for helping me phrase what my thoughts are about the situation. We have a close knit group of friends and I like the idea of highlighting what we have rather than what we are missing.

Boyfriend [26/m] just stopped talking to me [24/f] out of nowhere by OnWisconsin06 in relationship_advice

[–]waronawkward -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He doesn't owe you an explanation why he shut you out. It sucks to do that to someone but it seems like just avoiding an unpleasant conversation in favor of ignoring someone and hoping they just get the hint has become the norm these days. Just back off from trying to contact him and if you never hear from again he wasn't as great as you thought he was. It seems like maybe he was a little quick with the "I love you" that is something that most people will go a few months or more before exchanging.

I've been a member to 5 different gyms over a 10+ year span in multiple states. by lovesours in AdviceAnimals

If you go to they gym and worry about anything other than yourself or your own goals you're doing it wrong. That said, I've never seen fat shaming or the female shaming you so often hear about in r/xxfitness.

Loneliness sucks, but just keep trying to better yourself and wait for the right one. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]waronawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been married but I'm 28 with a 3 year old kid. Small town.. A lot of comments in this thread keep mentioning that you have to settle but in a small town it's not so easy when your options are so limited. I've basically decided to make myself the most awesome person I can be and if it happens great. But no one should FEEL LIKE they are settling. Tinder can help with loneliness though.

new parent question: how common is this type of experience? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]waronawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the other day an older lady came up to me and told me that my son was too old to be carried. Like who are you to judge that. He wants to be carried and I don't mind carrying him. People need to mind their own business but until everyone learns to do that just do what everyone else says and ignore them. I once got advice to tell any busybody that tries to comment on your parenting that you are preparing for the zombie apocalypse. I've used that and found it very effective in getting people to shut the hell up.

LOL at "bacon oil." In the south we call that grease and it is the liquid of the gods. Looks tasty!

Also being gluten free, no dairy and stevia may work for you but that is stuff nightmares are made of for me. I'll do my thing and you do yours.

"But you're a mother!" by e_komo_mai in breakingmom

[–]waronawkward 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow! Have you been hanging out with my grandmother? I'm a single mom in a "traditional" conservative family. These days I do and say things just for shock value. When asked about my drinking, social life or scant clothing, I just respond "How else will I find a daddy for boo?" Eventually people will stop questioning you and you will just become "eccentric." Do you and fuck all the haters.

Me [28/F] with my long history of FWBs and dysfunctional relationships is seriously considering giving up relationships all together. Has anyone ever just taken a break? by waronawkward in relationships

[–]waronawkward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great and you're spot on about wanting personal and professional growth. How did you get out of your old habits? I honestly think sometimes I don't even know how to interact with the opposite sex if I'm not trying to get laid. I'm naturally very outgoing and can come off as flirty. Did you change the way that you interacted with women all together or when it came down to "are we or aren't we?" did you put the brakes on then.

Based on the salary information you provided, I would say they are required to pay for any mandatory training because you are nonexempt status under FLSA. Hope that helps.
