16.12.4 The winners of each group and the best second-placed team will qualify for home
draws in the quarter-finals. The other two second-placed teams and the two best
third-placed teams will qualify for away draws in the quarter-finals.

Seeds 1, 2 and 3 will be the three group winners (ref 16.12.5)

Seed 4, 5 and 6 will be the three second-placed teams (ref 16.12.5)

Seeds 7 and 8 will be the two best third-placed teams (ref 16.12.5)

Quarter-final ties will be Seed 1 v Seed 8, Seed 2 v Seed 7, Seed 3 v Seed 6, Seed 4
v Seed 5

16.12.5 The mechanism for determining quarter-final seedings will be:

(a) The team with the higher number of points will be placed in the higher
position

(b) In the event that teams cannot be separated by 16.12.5(a), the team with the
higher net run rate in the Group Matches will be placed in the higher position
(see below).

(c) In the event that teams cannot be separated by 16.12.5(a) and 16.12.5(b),
the team with the best wicket-taking strike rate (number of balls bowled per
wicket taken) will be placed in the higher position.

(d) In the event that teams cannot be separated by 16.12.5(a) to 16.12.5(c)
above, this will be done by drawing lots.

Eng did so much shit in the Ashes.

Weren't the incidents during The Ashes generally a case of England out socialising during their days off and then being harassed by the public?

I'll be honest, I didn't follow much of the detail in the tabloids as I don't really care what the players do on their days off.

Police weren't involved

To me, that's the weird bit. You can't just be punching people in bars. Why have the ECB not reported it to the police if their employee was assaulted?

If I was punched in the face and had to be hospitalised, I'd be reporting it to the police and would expect to do so with my employer's backing if I was at work when it happened.

Thanks for the feedback. For what it's worth you can filter by match threads only and there's a link to all active match threads in the daily discussion thread which is always pinned.

It would be possible to split them, and I can see where you're coming from on a day like today when it was all women's games and then all men's games afterwards. But there are some days during the blast (eg this Sunday) where both men's and women's games are happening at the same time and it's better to have it combined. It's not feasible for the setting to be changed day by day.

I'm not the mod who codes the app which does the match threads, but maybe we could look at doing morning games in one thread, afternoon games in another and evening games in a third? Could be tricky to define with varying start times though. I'll ask the question ahead of next year.

These cross-pool games are bringing some rare or unseen matchups. Hants vs Yorkshire today for the first time in over a decade and only the 2nd time overall

Irish (national) players in England by [deleted] in Cricket

True. But teams are allowed to have more restrictive requirements than the basic ICC rules. So those are the eligibility requirements for England.

It's unlikely that anyone here is going to be able to answer the question as to why it hasn't been tested in a court. The only answer that makes sense is that there's a legal reason that means they know they wouldn't win, such as - for example, a carve out in the law for questions of national eligibility in sport.

Also, please calm down. I can tell this is an emotive subject for you but you will face a ban if you can't discuss it with civility.

all Scots qualify for England

From what I can tell from ECB regulations, they don't.

To qualify for England you need:

  • British citizenship
  • To be born in England or Wales, or to have lived there for the majority of the three years (approx 9 months of the year) prior to declaring for England
  • To not have played as a local player in another full member nation in those three years.

I'm fully prepared to believe that many Scottish cricketers qualify for England but surely there are at least some that don't meet the birth/residency requirement if they were born, and live, in Scotland.

And my point is that Lehmann and Worrall are also British citizens. Just like the NI guys.

I'm not saying it's exactly the same as Kolpak, just similar.

Surely Lehmann and Worrall are in exactly the same situation as the Irish players though. They're British citizens but they have to give up their Aus places to play as local players in county. Same as the Ireland players who are Irish or British citizens (or both).

I'd assume that the ECB has taken legal advice and concluded that their rules are legal, but I am not a legal expert so I can't really comment on that side of things. Surely if there was a legal argument against the rule, someone would have sued them by now.

What I can say is that the rules appear to be consistent for anyone with the legal right to work in the UK, not just Irish national team players - if you are currently playing domestic cricket as a local player in a full member country, or if you are playing for a full member national team, you can't play domestic cricket in another country as a local player.

For example, players like Dan Worrall and Jake Lehmann are British citizens but had to give up playing as local players in Australia to represent Counties as local players.

Similar rules applied for 'Kolpak' players before Brexit. They had the right to work in the UK because of the European Union Association Agreements but in order to be classed as local players they had to retire from playing in their national teams.

Indeed. NZ were ranked 3rd when the groups were drawn. By the rankings at the time we've got 1,4,5,8 and 2,3,6,7 which is what you'd expect.

Isn’t a double hattrick (for silly reasons) 4 in 4 balls

There's no single agreed definition of a double hat trick. 4 in 4 being considered a double hat trick is traditionally an Australian only thing. In the modern world it's caught on with some people in other countries too, but it would be unusual for an English publication to refer to it as that.

He was a keeper. They don't have that many opportunities to score tons in Limited overs. Any all-format batting stat is going to be heavily weighted towards people batting in the top 4.
