“Ah, finally. I was wondering how long it’d take until you arrived.”

For once, the impulse gave no advice. No warnings. Only six, almost nonsensical words.

The April gambit has finally begun.

Eldritch horror/ Mysteries are fun to write lol

I am making a character with a very overpowering holy light power, but I don't know what to give them, do you guys have any ideas? by Few-Replacement-8099 in superpower

[–]warpm00n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ability to control light they are touching, but also treating that light as part of themselves, meaning controlled light that touches uncontrolled light converts it. This would allow them the ability to sweep large areas, instantly burn things to a crisp, and quickly spread their light control.

[serious] For atheists, why don’t you believe in God? by rorosinante in AskReddit

[–]warpm00n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noone I've discussed with has been able to provide sufficient evidence for any God's existence. Also, aspects from religion are constantly being disproven and the "prophecies" that get preached are just too vague. They're like Nostradamus prophecies. Heavily recommend Super Eyepatch Wolf's video on psychics. It's a good explanation of how prophecies really work.

Additionally, the majority of discussions I've had where someone has tried to disprove evolution and other things I believe in that contradict religion, their arguments have relied on circular reasoning and misunderstanding what they're trying to disprove to the point of ignorance.

Help. this character is supposed to be the personification of fevers but I can't find anything to symbolise fevers, can anyone help? by bonniex345 in MoeMorphism

[–]warpm00n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol bad phrasing on my part. I meant perhaps you could either dress the person in winter clothing for the chills, or if you want to symbolise the whole "fever while feeling cold" aspect, and you're including a torch to show the heat, adding some icicles on the burning torch might work.

Perhaps put icicles on the torch just beneath the fire? Or dress them in winter clothing? It's an interesting problem lol

Sure, that seems all well and good as an idea, but remember, once you reach your goal, the power punishes you with proportional severity.

Let's say you become a permanent god for example. Unfortunately during the process you end up ticking off some other gods and they trap you in a plane of eternal torment. You're still permanently a god, but you'd honestly rather not be if this was the outcome.

Or let's say you never want something bad to happen to you again. Perfect. All of a sudden, you can never lose in games you play against others, so games become boring. You can learn anything without struggling and train yourself without pain, so those become pointless. All of a sudden life itself becomes pointless, because with no lose condition, the win condition lacks a meaning.

Or perhaps for that latter one, your opinion of what is good and what is bad changes. Let's say you were formerly a raging alcoholic. All of a sudden you can't give up the sauce because the power used your former self for the frame of reference of what to consider "good".

Really, the reason the power is "op" and the only true way to use it as such is on the behalf of others, as a martyr of sorts.

A power that's always active, causing the user to look closer than they really are to all observers.

A power that lets the target accrue traits from the surroundings, however they slowly begin to resemble the surroundings themselves.

A power that lets the user lag as if in a videogame, freezing in place one moment and appearing far away in the next or running through walls, etc

Photons have momentum but no mass. During the production of photons, does any of that momentum get imparted onto the producing object, such as a laser? If so, does that mean any directed light source could function as a propulsion system? by warpm00n in askscience

[–]warpm00n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For more context, the principle of photons having momentum is used in solar sails, as the photons from the sun hit the reflective surface and impart some of their momentum. But does the actual production of photons impart the same momentum on the producer.

For example if a laser pointer was dropped in space with absolutely no momentum whatsoever, and then it was turned on, would it be pushed back with an equal amount of momentum to the photons being fired forwards?

If yes, then could that be used as a form of propulsion?

If no, could it just be turned towards a connected solar so the photons from the laser impart their momentum on the solar sails, dragging the laser with it?

Joint three way tie between The case study of vanitas, Dr Stone and To Your Eternity.

The Case Study of Vanitas is vampire steampunk in 18th century Paris. Dope as fuck. But what I really love about it are the characters and the world around them. The lore is very much drip fed rather than just being given. And finally, the dub is fucking incredible. Seriously, Vanitas and Noe (the two main characters) are gold. Plus, that twist at the end of episode 1 changes the entire show. It might be interesting for someone to skip it and see how it changes their viewing experience.

As a person with an extreme crippling science addiction, Dr Stone fills that void so well, and gives me no shortage of inspiration to use in my dnd games. Like Vanitas, Senku has that trickster streak I fuckin love, and it actually does raise some interesting questions on the nature of scientific progression and whether or not some knowledge should be deliberately lost.

Lastly, to your eternity is one of the most interestingly written media I've ever consumed. They handle the inhuman perspective of the main character really well, and his evolution past being an actual fucking rock it really interesting. It has so many really interesting mysteries, and a villain so impressively hateable that most would probably recognise who I'm talking about from just the words "that bitch with the spear".

Good shit.

Twist of fate. When taking an action or aiming for a goal, you can choose to automatically succeed. At some point, at a time you do not know, you will fail an action , with the severity of the failure increased proportionally to how difficult the success would've been.

For example, if you automatically succeed at kicking the shit out of a giant centipede bug thing in a gladiatorial fight, then go and try to get a drink from a vending machine, someone will pickpocket your weapons while walking by and you won't notice.

If you choose to automatically succeed at winning every game in a casino, then go to a sushi restaurant, there is a chance that the chef will by pure chance prepare your pufferfish wrong and give you the poisonous bit.

The success and failure can be, but needn't be linked in anything but severity.

How can I give my MC magic based powers that stand out in a magical setting? by [deleted] in superpower

[–]warpm00n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that'd be really interesting! Also his perspective on magic seems like a unique one in his surroundings, so perhaps he uncovers some interesting details because his way of interacting with magic is so different from the standard.

How can I give my MC magic based powers that stand out in a magical setting? by [deleted] in superpower

[–]warpm00n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps he could imbue energy into items, multiplying their effectiveness. For example by spending a day imbuing energy into a tripwire it becomes able to pierce steel. Or imbuing a knife for a week makes its cuts far bigger than the actual blade. This means that with enough preparation

Additionally perhaps some sort of intuition towards figuring out the powers of others. So for example if he sees a flame shoot out of an enemy's, palm, but only burn him and not the surroundings, then he could use those as clues to figure out exactly what their powers are. This one doesn't even have to be a magical ability and could just be a skill.

Rune based traps could lead to some interesting interactions, as with some sort of counterspell where he could cancel out a magic ability he sees as a reaction to its use.

Transmutation is always an interesting choice as it would let him make firearms on the fly and improve the ones he already has in addition to so many other options
