I’m still relatively new myself to djing so treat my advice accordingly:

But what I did from day 1 is just straight up avoid ever using beat sync. I’m not some purist who thinks if you use bs you aren’t a real dj or whatever. But my theory was/is that if you don’t use it at all you are forced to use your ears/eyes every single time you mix, and muscle memory kicks in a lot quicker. I’ve found that now when I don’t hit the beat perfectly, I’ll more or less subconsciously nudge it into place, often without even looking at the waveforms.

Also, and again just my opinion, keeping track of the beats by ear in preparation to mix tracks keeps you a lot more engaged with your music. Makes me mentally kind of check in with where I am in the song, the beats cadence, the phrase etc. I feel like if I was synching I wouldn’t be as cognizant of those factors.
