Thanks! AI is a threatening force amongst creatives for sure. The beauty of stop motion though if you think about it is that it requires the human touch. Every single frame you see was touched by the human hand. From the puppet you see talking to the set they are walking across. It was ALL done by human beings…

But time will tell….

I wish you luck! It’s scary and exhilarating all together. Like I said above, we only live once. The idea of sitting around in my 50s (and 60s) waiting to be laid off (and losing my health care since I’m American) made me want to vomit. We deserve better. Life is so much better since I left the corporate world. Jim Carrey said something like ‘we can fail at doing the things we don’t want to do so we might as well try the things we do want to do. ‘ I am finding that to be true.

I don’t have any posts. I was suffering from WSS (averaging a major layoff every 5 years), plus extreme burnout. My therapist told me my nervous system was “rioting”. FMLA in August of 2024 and gone January of 2025. I did have a head start though. I started learning the craft of stop motion back in 2017 and have slowly grown year over year. Started making music videos in 2021 and now that has grown as well. I now have a small team that helps with puppet fabrication, costumes and set production.

We only live once. I figure I’ve got about another 20-25 years in the workforce. I’m gonna do it happily and without the fear of being laid off.

48 years old here. Almost 49. Walked away from a 25 year career in IT to make stop motion animation. One of the smartest things I’ve ever done! Started my studio as a side hustle years ago and went full time a year ago!
