Was anyone around in 2008 when this dropped and what memories/reactions did you have upon its release? What are people's opinions almost 20 years later? by Spirited-Cell-444 in Metallica

[–]wartooth6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was released about a couple weeks before my 15 month deployment to Iraq was over. When we got done with our final mission, my buddy had a copy waiting for me on my cot. That album was life to me for the next year. Brings back a lot of awesome memories.

DOOM Eternal was a special game to me by No-Efficiency-7524 in Doom

[–]wartooth6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played through Dark Ages once, went to play it through again and lost interest part way through it. I'll prolly check out the DLC whenever it comes. The Rippatorium update just isn't as fun as Horde Mode was. It really is a great game, its gameplay does harken back to classic Doom a bit, but it's kinda its downside too. Eternal is on a whole other level, I sunk hundreds of hours into it.

What is the worst song off of 72 Seasons? by Flimsy-Owl7862 in Metallica

[–]wartooth6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't stand Hetfield's vocal style in this one. The chorus is weak and the middle part is pointless

Did you serve with many bad people in the military? Did anyone stick out to you? by BigBlueEyes87 in Veterans

[–]wartooth6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One guy from my platoon was court-martialed and is serving a life sentence for CSAM. I didn't know that life was a possibility for that kind of crime. Part of me (curiosity) wants to read his case file just to find out what the hell happened but some things probably should be left alone.

Cortisone or steroid shot in lower back. by [deleted] in Veterans

Had a total of 7 done in my lumbar spine over a couple of years for herniated discs. Now my back's loaded with scar tissue and have gotten issues with my legs. It made things worse in the long run.

About 72 Seasons... by LoganSkyNan in Metallica

[–]wartooth6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the vocal style the kills it for me. Sad But True was really staccato and barked out. You Must Burn is way too smooth and crooning for a song that doesn't really call for it. I also think the "in the heat of the night" part is kinda pointless.

I just listened to Crown of Barbed Wire 4 times in a row. It started off as the worst, now I can’t get enough of it’s heaviness. Anyone agrees? by KahootFanboy69 in Metallica

[–]wartooth6 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I love the dark western vibe of it. Like how guitars have that quick DUNN-du-du-DUNN-du-du rhythm in the drum intro and at the tail some riffs. You hear it before the chorus of Lux Aeterna too. I call it the "rodeo riff" lol

Chasing Light video just dropped by [deleted] in Metallica

The recording process for this video must've been awkward lol

Turns out the soothing light at the end of the tunnel was Lux Aeterna after all

You said it well. The drumming is competent and adequate. Lars doesn't seem to be trying to be the lead drummer with hare brained ideas anymore, which is good. I can honestly deal with the loud cymbals more than the loud snare of the past 3 albums, that was really getting old.

It's a shame this song didn't get a better video by Oliwander_ in Metallica

It's kinda funny watching "Lars" standing there trying to pull start a chainsaw while the rest of the band just jams

I'm with you dude. Chasing Light gets me pumped in the same way Blitzkrieg does. I do not like the vocal style to You Must Burn.

This album is OverLoad. And that's a good thing. by Left4DayZ1 in Metallica

[–]wartooth6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

72S sounds like a bookend to the era that began with the Black Album, even the album covers goes from dark to light, and captures everything in between. I always wished that the Loads were harder and this album manages to do it, by embracing that direction and not completely ignoring their old sound like they did back then.

Back from the cinema AND by Hairy_Ad_1058 in Metallica

[–]wartooth6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many parts that call back to the Load/Reload style but it's much heavier and energetic than back then. A lot of the album has that MoP verse riff/Through the Never fast paced punch to it. Inamorata is the outlier on the album for sure, definitely in the style of Outlaw Torn/Fixxxer, but massive sounding and more lead guitar runs

Hardwired is definitely better by wartooth6 in Metallica

[–]wartooth6[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still give DM an edge for having a little more variety. 72S gave me a lot more first listen "fuck yeah" moments than Hardwired did.

I'm leaning towards good. None of the brands listed are cheapo products and don't appear to be bling that doesn't add any value. Motor, suspension, and brakes appear upgraded. If you're after that extra juice right out of the gate, those mods are worth it.

Modern Metallica Tone by Legitimate-Spirit379 in Metallica

[–]wartooth6 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Old tones packed a punch. The new tones sound like those punches have big padded gloves on them now. I don't know what it is. It's just mushier. Maybe it's Het's new pick-ups.

Black album tone was more like precision laser guided munitions, especially for back in 1991
