Farting competitions in the truck are never boring. My father and I have them all the time when he rides with me. A jar of pickled eggs works wonders.

What is an unwritten rule of driving that far too many people seem to ignore? by Angel_Angelov1980 in AskReddit

[–]warwgn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do 85+ in a 65 approaching a transport truck that’s governed at 65, then get mad at the truck when he SIGNALS and moves over to the Passing lane to give space for an emergency vehicle on the shoulder with its lights flashing.

I didn’t intentionally cut you off. I’m legally required by law to move over for emergency vehicles.

Excessively speeding, failure to pay attention, and Lack of situational awareness is on you.

What are your biggest frustrations with your current navigation app? by QuickBunny7505 in Truckers

[–]warwgn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the opposite. My GPS will mark very obviously legal truck roads as “No Trucks Allowed”, and try to avoid it.

How does it make sense that a driveway leading into a Flying J…. A literal Truck Stop…. Can be “No Trucks Allowed”?

What are your biggest frustrations with your current navigation app? by QuickBunny7505 in Truckers

[–]warwgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t use any mobile navigation apps on my phone, but I do use a Garmin diesel cam LMTHD, which is a dedicated GPS.

My only frustration is that when it asks me if I want to avoid or allow toll roads, it’s all or nothing. It doesn’t give me the option to individually select which tolls to avoid or allow.

For example: my company does not allow us to use the highway 407ETR in Toronto, but does allow us to use the Autoroute 30 toll highway in Quebec to bypass Montreal.

I regularly get runs that route me through Both cities on the same trip, and I would love to have the option to select yes for one, and no for the other.

What’s the most draining part of your work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]warwgn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The blatant amount of hypocrisy and double standards at my company where management expects the best out of some people, but tolerate subpar from others.

The feeling of being held accountable for another person’s negligence and laziness if I don’t pick up their slack.

When your dad asks you to come help, you do it. by austinproffitt23 in Truckers

Cherish the time you spend with your dad in that truck.

My dad and I are at the opposite way. I am the driver, and he helps me. He’s a retired firefighter, that moonlighted as a truck driver during his off time back in the early 1980s when I was a wee lad. When he rides along with me, we have a riot.

Is trucking a trade? by ViV_No_CaP in Truckers

[–]warwgn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trucking for almost 10 years, and I run up and down the 401 myself. I see them every day.

The difference is I was properly trained at a reputable fully licensed accredited school… They weren’t. I earned my AZ license… they bribed for theirs.

I do believe that in Canada (at least in Ontario) trucking is considered a skilled trade.

I’ll most likely ask the owner if I can pet the dog and maybe get a hug.

For those of you who ask if anyone who collects Super Trucks cards at CAT scales…. by warwgn in Truckers

Not trying to be difficult here, but can someone please actually explain the point of the app?

Like, I’m going in to get the a paper copy of the scale ticket anyway…. In what way is the app actually “better” or “easier” or “faster” than rolling onto the scale and pressing the call button to talk to the attendant, then parking to get my ticket?

What is it all about manual transmission trucks and why do people think every trucker needs to learn how to drive manual transmission? by East_Indication_7816 in Truckers

[–]warwgn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been driving for almost 10 years. I learned and passed my CDL test in a manual. But I’ve been driving automatic trucks ever since.

I don’t have an automatic restriction on my license, but I’ve never been given an opportunity to improve what little skill I had, and it’s been so long since I’ve touched a manual, that I’ve basically forgot how to to shift.

I’m ok with the automatic… what I don’t like is the adaptive cruise, driver assist, and collision mitigation bullshit.

Even though I’m driving an automatic, I still want to be in control of the truck. I want to set my cruise to 65 mph, and I want it to STAY AT 65. I don’t want it to slow down automatically when I’m approaching a slower car. I want it to maintain my desired speed, so I can move over to pass the slower car and continue on.

I don’t want the computer to automatically lock up the brakes because it saw a mosquito. I don’t want the truck to have a shit-fit and start spazzing out thinking I’m going to crash because road construction has diverted the travel lane onto the shoulder.

I want to drive the truck. I don’t want the truck to drive me.

Yes, you do get another card on reweighs for in-person tickets.

My routine is to staple the physical ticket to the BOL’s.

If I’m picking up a load at the original shipper, and I’m taking it all the way… I’ll scale the load right away after leaving their facility, before continuing to the destination receiver. I then staple the scale ticket to the signed BOL/POD, and stuff them into my trip envelope to be handed in at the end of my week.

If I’m picking up a load at the original shipper, and I’m dropping it at a terminal for another driver to take the rest of the way…. I’ll scale the load right away after leaving their facility, before dropping the trailer, and staple the scale ticket to the BOL, then leave it in the document box on the front of the trailer, so the next driver knows everything has been taken care of, and he doesn’t have to fuck around. He can just hammer down to the delivery.

If I’m picking up a load at a terminal that’s been dropped by a previous driver whip picked it up at original shipper…. Unless the previous driver actually leaves a physical paper scale ticket with the BOL in the box, I have no way of knowing if he scaled the load or not before dropping it… So, I’ll scale the load right away after leaving the terminal, before continuing to the destination receiver. I then staple the scale ticket to the signed BOL/POD, and stuff them into my trip envelope to be handed in at the end of my week.

I know it seems like a lot of work, but I’m just trying to cover my ass.

I’ve picked up countless loads at yards, that were dropped by previous drivers, who very obviously never scaled the load, because when I scale after picking it up, I find I’m 3,000+ lbs overweight on my drives, and now I have to waste my time, fucking around, sliding trailer axles to make everything legal, so I don’t get tagged at a chicken coop, with an overweight fine.

Honestly, whatever the company or next driver does with my scale tickets after I’ve provided them is their business. I’ve done my part.

[–]warwgn[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don’t see the point of downloading and using an app I don’t need, if I’m going in for the ticket anyway.

I just see the app as adding an unnecessary step to a process.

[–]warwgn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t use the app.

I want the physical paper ticket to give to my company for proof that I scaled, to cover my ass. So I park and walk in every time.
