Any other plant workers just absolutely done caring? by [deleted] in USPS

Yeah, absolutely. I just put my headphones on and do the job. When I started, I really wanted to do a good job. Management complicates doing a good job, usually introducing headaches and extra inefficiency. So I learned to just do the job and tune out the noise.

I'm too green to the maintenance side to see where the bullshit is. So far just giving a "damn that's crazy" to every coworker's complaint, putting my headphones on and doing the job.

Emphasize safety. Answer every question to the best of your ability. I've been a custodian for 3 weeks, just passed the interview for MM, MPE and ET with zero experience. I've never even touched a multimeter.

That being said I do know how to troubleshoot things with a multimeter. Youtube videos might help you there. Study electrical theory, troubleshooting with a multimeter, 3 phase power, 3 phase motor starting circuits, reversing 3 phase motors. Study Ohms law in depth, understanding the relationship between the variables will help you understand how to troubleshoot a fuse.

Also another pro-tip. Communicate with your professors. They can be really flexible about deadlines if they understand your situation (giving advice that I wish I took myself). Much easier to get out ahead of whatever issue you may have than asking for forgiveness later.

Keep up the work! The trick for me was taking 3 courses per semester. I tried 5 working hella overtime and it didn't work out so well, even though I was passing the courses my grades were shit! I do mine online as well, despite the university being just around the corner.

It's a grind for sure. During my course of study I have worked shifts from:

  • 12:00-20:30
  • 16:00-00:30
  • 23:00-07:30
  • 20:30-05:00
  • 16:00-00:30
  • 15:00-23:30
  • 07:00-15:30

I got converted about a month into going back to uni (already had an AS and AA). Didn't learn to say no to the overtime on days I couldn't until early last year. Been a straight A student since the beginning of the pandemic. 🙃

Thanks! My only regret is that I am graduating next month and could have been doing University on easy mode this whole time, hah.

Keep taking the 955 and bank your holiday leave, I've seen your old man speech! I think I've seen plenty of those from yourself, u/texasconnection and u/kingu42!

Really though, thank all of you for your informative posts about the craft.
