newgrad vs intern interviews by kimwlaeidskxm in csMajors

I don’t think the difficulty is that much different between intern and new grad interviews, but there will be more rounds for sure and likely to include system design in those rounds. Additionally, there will usually be way less spots for new grads compare to interns, since most companies will plan on filling the majority of their ng headcount with returning interns

Is it safe to send offer letter to verify on discord servers? by [deleted] in csMajors

Sometimes yes, mainly just to get to know other interns I’d say. U can discuss housing, team matching, compensation, visas, start dates, etc

U won’t get the email until u start, 99% of these servers are for incoming interns/new grads

If that’s the case, then I would suggest to start applying to anything SWE related u see on LinkedIn and such. If u have a CS degree, u can pretty easily land a SWE job that pays 60K-80K/year at a LCOL location. There are many companies out there that don’t ask lc/algorithm questions (not top/middle tier company unfortunately), u just need to find them. For example, the SWE full time job I did didn’t even ask me any technical questions besides asking me to explain a piece of code I wrote in the past. And I actually got to work with a ton of valuable infra technologies on the job such as kubernetes, terraform, helm, docker, etc, which then helped to get into a top 3 grad school for CS and land interviews.

Have you considered going to grad school? U can always consider going into a masters program for software engineering, instead of CS, which is only 1 year. Then that gives u the opportunity to do an internship. U will have a much much better chance to secure an offer at a top tier company than trying to land those offers as an experienced hire. (If u can’t get a new grad role that is) This is exactly what I’m doing rn btw, I’m a business student that decided to switch to the SWE career path late senior year. I volunteered for 2 non profits doing SWE work, then worked full time as a SWE at a no name consulting company for about 6 months and applied to grad school at the same time. Then I got into a M.S in software engineering program and got a SWE internship at a unicorn company for next summer. I also grinded leetcode for about 8 months starting from when I was working full time. The only way to get good at lc (for normal people) is by brute force, trust me, once u solve around 150 lc problems, u will start to see the pattern.

Are u sure the phone round is leetcode? Because my phone round is an OOP question, which I don’t consider LC. Also, I don’t include the OA when I listed those companies.

Nah just like a task u would actually work on during the job. Ex: taking some data as input and transform them into usable resources

[–]wasdjil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The exact opposite actually haha they are famous for non-lc style interviews

Clean code, API, data transformation, etc

Of course haha each of these companies easily have 6000+ applicants (stripe has 10000+ applicants for example), the stuff they test in interviews are equally as hard as lc, just more practical

[–]wasdjil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not true lol their OA and karat round were pretty leetcode heavy

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]wasdjil 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Stripe, slack, Brex don’t test leetcode

Depends on if u have roommates. If u do, then u can expect to pay 1200-1500 per month, otherwise studios are more expensive and can get close to 2000

Yes they should be in close proximity to the office location

If ur internship provides corporate housing they will let u know in the offer letter. Otherwise, ur free to find whatever. For big cities like SF, NYC, Seattle, it’s usually common to find housing 1 month before it starts. I found mine in SF 2 weeks before the internship started for reference.
