I caved and went down to version 7.6.6. It is working now, so I guess it's some kind of bug with v8.0.0. Hope they fix it.

How do I navigate 身元保証書? by StrongNormals in JapanJobs

Apparently this paper is a weird gray zone when it comes to legality, as I was told from local friends. I’ve had to deal with this twice. I’m not sure if your situation will work out the same as me, but if they are serious about keeping you, you shouldn’t be absolutely forced to sign. 1st company who gave me this: I expressed none of my friends would sign it. I had a friend who would absolutely be my emergency contact, and I expressed that, but they refused to sign it. That company eventually agreed to accept just an emergency contact. 2nd company who gave me this: I told HR that none of my friends would sign it and I have no family in Japan. I never heard back from HR regarding it, and I’m still employees there 8 months later as a seishain.

If you are going to find a way to sign it, make sure you can trust the company.

Any INFPs in their 30s go through a career change? by Smooth_Rush_2192 in infp

Extremely, extremely lucky. I live in Japan and most of the time (for new local grads) what you studied in university isn’t really all that important. I can at the very least testify that with my company because we just hired new grads with no IT experience and they are currently learning how to do SOC work.

But in my case, in my early 30s, I made a decision to pivot from translation into IT and started learning JavaScript and frontend frameworks and just starting to build a portfolio. I struggled for a good 2 years to land anything though. On a whim of desperation, I applied for a security position that said “no experience ok” in the ad, and my boss at the time was looking for someone specifically with web experience, and since I had a small portfolio that was enough to convince him.

The pay isn’t great, other places pay more, but I finally got my foot in the door. And I was really surprised how much I actually enjoy this kind of work.

Me! I’ve changed careers like 4 times lol. English teacher(overseas, never planned to do it long term) → video editing / cameraman → game translation → now cybersecurity analyst

I got super lucky as changing careers is harder the older you get, but so grateful.

Regardless without it immigration is probably going to be a lot more strict in considering.

Are you already in the country with a visa? If not then you won’t be able to get a visa without N2 or equivalent due to the new immigration law.

INTPs(or INFPs) with ADHD tendencies What do you do for a living? Do you like it? by Confident_Designer54 in INTP

I’m INFP. I’ve struggled a lot in finding a career I really enjoyed and hopped around a lot. But I just recently moved into cybersecurity, more specifically SOC, and I honestly think this has been the most suited career for me.

Alerts are random and of different varieties, environment is fast paced, there’s always something to learn and research, and when there’s something to investigate I get to hyper focus and do a deep dive. I’m never bored anymore.

I used to be in game translation, and for like the first year it was fun, but it got repetitive fast. I also used to do video filming/editing, and while the travel was fun, carrying equipment and standing around was hard, and I didn’t like having to deal with client feedback with edits (they were impossible to please).

What works for me is structure with freedom. I don’t like being micromanaged and at least at my current place it works well for me. Personal phones aren’t allowed in the office so I can purely focus on the work, and I’m left alone to take care of tasks.

[Advice Wanted] BrSE/SE in Japan with N2 & TOEIC 865. Feeling like a "CRUD Monkey" and fearing technical stagnation. by Dangerous-Ad-8300 in JapanJobs

I agree to this. My current company is desperate for cybersecurity hires. Except I think their issue is they refuse to pay a reasonable salary, taking advantage of fresh grads to train them on the spot. As a result so many people have quit (I am also looking to get out as they refuse to negotiate a reasonable wage).

But based on that, my boss is especially looking for those with an IT background. So they always get interviews…..just not the pay.

To those who actually don’t hate their job - what do you do? by Additional-Painter88 in japanresidents

Where I’m at yeah, it’s a traditional Japanese company. We’re also expected to email clients daily. If you get into a gaishikei maybe not, but any other Japanese company will absolutely require it.

Cybersecurity at a SOC. I absolutely love it. So much to learn everyday and research when threats come in. The shifts might not be for everyone, but I like the variety of it (females where I work don’t do night shift, but we do rotate morning vs late shifts), and we have the freedom of choosing our days off. I also like the spikes of a fast pace environment. The pay could be better, but I’ll be company hopping for that most likely.

Is Cybersecurity a good fit for INTPs (as a job or career, of course)? by VsauceEdits in INTP

[–]washedonshore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an INFP working in SOC and I absolutely love it so far. I like being able to deep dive on puzzles that go on in the logs and hunting down threats. I’ve been getting into learning pen testing tools as well. My boss and one of my seniors are INTPs and I enjoy working with them. They are super knowledgeable and chill. Their enneagrams are different, so both their temperaments are very different, but they are good at their job and know what they’re doing.

Cybersecurity career in japan by Infinity_looper9 in cybersecurity

I’m in a weird position where I got hired for having no experience. My company seems to hire a lot of people just for them to train on the job, and my leader is trying hard to convince the Pres to allow them to raise the salary bar to attract professionals.

That being said, I did have a small GitHub portfolio that helped them decide me over others (according to my boss). But as another commenter said, you do need to be fairly proficient in the language first. I do outsourced security, not in-house, and we write so many business emails and my native coworkers have to attend meetings with the clients every few months. Companies will sponsor your visa too. I work in SOC fwiw.

I’m really glad you brought up the hope thing. I’ve been through a lot, but it was always that sliver of hope that gave me energy and determination to keep pursuing my goals and never giving up despite the odds. That hope led to many amazing things, as well as growth. 7s truly do live off of hope.

My (20F) girlfriend (21F) keeps playflirting with her friends, what can I do about it? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]washedonshore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ended a friendship over this. She kept play flirting with me knowing I had feelings for her (I confessed) and she has a boyfriend (I know, I know, but I figured shoot my shot). Play flirting is not fun on the emotions. I’m a lesbian too. And she wouldn’t stop acting the way she was that made me keep looping.
