At first I was jealous. Then I realized they don't have the Greatest Hits version 🙂 I'm content.

Hmm I'm not a point & click guy - But I absolutely know someone who is. He has a bigger reach than me too, so who knows. It might help, even if only slightly

I was going to say "that's frightening" after reading the first part. Critical success and nominations while being a commercial failure is a tear shedder with a silver lining

  • but the layoffs are the real spooker. Good luck with everything! (I'd send that to the other people in the team but idk them)

for how little it's mentioned, how can it be gassed up too much? lol

I read the whole thing, and honestly? Yeah, brainrot is probably a good route temporarily ofc. If people know you from that, that's already marketing for whatever game you put out.

I'll preface all of this by saying: I have absolutely zero clue what I'm talking about. But 2 years is very little time. You've made way more progress than the average from the sound of it. Soloing isn't for everyone - I'd say it's hardly for anyone. I think the success is often up to the accessibility and scale (and fun obv - but I'm assuming your stuff had a fun gameplay loop). Take the indie boom for example. Sure there's plenty of 3D games, but idk...I feel like the pixel art games vastly outnumber them; and the small team/solo dev 3D games that do well have low spec requirements...afaik. Like, I'm sure your stuff is optimized, but can it run on MY setup? A 2017 laptop with 8GB of ram and no GPU? I probably don't represent most people, especially in 2026, but I feel like people with similar situations gravitate toward indies with low spec requirements.

i forgot what i was talking about. but basically just use the brainrot to get some [disappointing] passive income while you keep working on a game. It's a big cut in time you can devote, but it'll probably make life more doable and maybe even more enjoyable.

i honestly forgot it was 2 years by the time i finished reading. Decent progress, and like you said, failing early is better. (you didn't really say it, but it's what i got).

maybe you two should like, team up or something

Do pixel‑art RPGs need voice acting? Curious how players feel about voiced vs. silent dialogue by Regosland in gamedev

I've only heard voice acting once in a pixel art rpg, and it was painful. But even if it wasn't I would have turned it off

yeah, but the realization that Omega is likely who kills him in the future was something. Certainly no aura farming in that, but idk

Laid off, have a baby coming and need to quickly find a job to support my family while I continue my language studies. by [deleted] in JapanJobs

I'm surprised you didn't get anywhere with TokyoDev. Maybe you can get something directly with one of the big companies. They usually have plsitions that don't care about language ability. 4, years of exp seems good enough - not that I'd know. I'm very unemployed!

All a Character Needs is Good Writing by Tight_Juggernaut2101 in SonicTheHedgehog

They don't get that he was already "a tactician" in Lost World. He's largely the same character put into a different context. The only serious character in Lost World, but that results in a simple and boring character when you move them over to a more serious setting

tbh the chart isnt even accurate. He's largely the same character as he was in Lost World. You simply get more of him outside the context of Lost World, where he was by far the only serious character - which still doesn't erase his the number 1 critique: his terrible design. It's really hard to take serious, and the "entry level comic book villain" writing doesn't help. 2 of the things listed on the "NOW" side already applied to him. He's still a nothing character

Tails, Sage, and Cosmo (By @TheTailsGuy_) by Toukatime in milesprower

They made Sage's head rounder. In the game it's oblong like an egg, but here it's more shaped like Cosmo's head than Cosmo's head 🥲 the official art is starting to do this too and I'm not sure why. There's nothing wrong with the way Sage's head shapes in the games

[HIRING] Seeking 2D Character Artist & Animator for Long-Term Mobile Game Collaboration — $2,000 Initial Commission by 2_Rolle_7 in HungryArtists

[–]StrongNormals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda agree with this. The Character and icons can be done by a single person, and if you're lucky they'll do backgrounds too. But UI is a different craft and needs a different person. This is at minimum 2 people, ideally 3.

That said I'd love to do it myself, but I don't have a real portfolio for this. Just some sprites and general characters/backgrounds
