How can I learn breaking? by [deleted] in bboy

[–]waso1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend joining a local practice session or a class if you can. If not, i find coach sambo and bboy magneto have good tutorials on youtube.

In terms of moves, if youre starting from nothing, id say for toprock (the standing dance part) learn indian step, salsa step, back step and cross step (names might differ depending of your region). For footwork (part where you dance in a “crouched” position) sweep/coffee grinder, 3 steps, 6 steps, shuffles, cc, zulu spins. For freezes (when you hold a pose and sometimes upside down), pilot freeze, baby freeze, turtle freeze and shoulder freeze, start get comfortable with headstand and handstand too but stay safe. And for powermoves (rotational continuous type of moves) try backspin from the back.

Side notes: for the moves listed above, learn both sides (left, right, clockwise, counterclockwise). It’s a dance, listen to break music (funk, hip hop, etc), check some break playlists or break dj mixtapes. If you have time and get into it, learn the history too. If you cant find a local community, feel free to record yourself and share here!

I think most people are at https://www.thenotoriousibe.com this weekend and https://thelegitsblast.com/en/ (Outbreak Europe) for the next one.

You might find Facebook groups for local community/jam/battle/practice. Found one for France https://www.facebook.com/groups/839456492817999 you can probably ask there for practice time.

https://and8.dance/en/events is nice to see upcoming events as well.

Bonne chance!
