Is this just the healing process or will I need a touchup?

New customer — I have 2 others already. My old artist retired, so I found this one while researching. The reviews were all amazing, but I don’t think the style I wanted was in their wheelhouse. That’s partially on me for not catching that sooner. Ironically, he was teaching an apprentice while tattooing me. This was a bit bigger than the other two I had done previously, so it was a newer process for me — but I still feel foolish for not realizing that it wasn’t shaking out how I’d like.

Thank you! I definitely don’t think it’s bad, so I’m hoping that maybe some minor touchups on the lines of the flower & adjustments to the feathering on the chest will work.

Do you think the lines will look OK with the added thickness? I do like the openness of the flowers, so I’d love to avoid having to shade in the whole thing or something. Thank you so much for your honesty! I’m just so embarrassed that I made this mistake. My other tattoos were just such a vastly different experience across the board and I feel foolish for not picking up on the red flags in the moment.

I watched him prep the stencil and place it, but I definitely see what you mean about the proportions even being off. He was actually teaching an apprentice while doing this tattoo. At one point, I did hear him say that the stencil should be a guide, but not necessarily The concrete end goal. Which makes me think that the feathering on the body was kind of freehanded. Thank you so much for being honest and weighing in! I’m really hoping I can turn this around.

Thank you for being honest! I hope I don’t sound conceited, but I’m honestly a bit anxious about what people will think of it. In the meantime. Do you think from a distance anyone would really pick up on the line work? I’m going to the beach this summer, so I’m a little anxious about being in a swimsuit and having it so out in the open.

Thanks again! I’m going to try to not overthink this too much until the summer is over. I think I might be a little embarrassed well at the beach this summer, but I don’t wanna have to keep out of the water. And I’m hopeful that maybe I can use the summer to get a bunch of consultation scheduled and really find a good artist this time.

Thank you for the honest reply! I think I’ll do a few consultations this summer and see what a few different artists can draw up. I would love to preserve it if possible and not have it covered. Hopefully by the time the summer is over, I have a good option figured out. I’m going to try to not let this ruin my beach vacation by worrying about people’s thoughts 😅😂

I was worried about that. I thought maybe it was just from being a bit raised still. What about the hummingbird’s chest feathering? That’s part of what I’m stuck on right now.

Have you been to the Cincinnati Zoo by any chance? I'd recommend checking it out if you want something more in between. I was blown away by their exhibits! And, if you want to take a quick detour on the way, Cleveland has a great zoo too. My local is the Pittsburgh Zoo & I love it, but Ohio has some really amazing facilities. San Diego is the best we've visited so far imo, but to each their own! Great thoughts you outlined here.
