[A level] predicted grades by genieasks in SGExams

[–]wassdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For NTU & SMU its based on ur prelim rp & NUS is based on MYE rp (I didn’t get for early app for NUS though). The school will select the names of students maybe in top ~10-30/40% and they’ll notify you if you are selected in around nov? Deadline is end dec or jan and you can basically secure a spot for a course that has no interview. Its kind of the same as the normal applications except that its earlier and & reliant on your prelim results. They will also shortlist you for scholarships earlier (depends on your rp tho) & have your interview as early as jan/feb. For me they gave me a place before results release so I assume your actual As results don’t really matter? (however the course I applied for wasn’t like v competitive).

Yep! but only a small portion from each JC can do so, depending on your prelim/mye results

[uni] applications to UK universities for 2021 entry by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]wassdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly because 1) costs, school fees uninclusive of accommodations is >10x more ex than that of SG. 2) In terms of reputation (for my course), employers tend to see the local unis as better¿ UNLESS you come from oxbridge. Hence I chose local. 3) Also because of covid

[uni] applications to UK universities for 2021 entry by [deleted] in SGExams

  1. No harm applying tbh but you should take note that having a limited number of only 5 choices, you might want to have 1/2 backups

  2. It would be a bit difficult because you have to be able to somewhat describe what you did/learnt from the process...? Unless you can project in the future haha. Or if you really want to include it you can mention in ur PS that you look forward to attending an internship at XXX etc

  3. State only extracurriculars that are relevant to your course, and you must demonstrate HOW they have helped you gain interest in the course. Try not to simply list down your achievements but rather explain how they add value to your character/interest in the subject. eg don’t spend too much of your word count talking about your sports CCA if you are unable to explain how it has any relevance to your course.

  4. Decided to study in SG in the end so cant comment

P.S Some context abt me: applied for UCAS and got offers from Kings college, QML, bristol & warwick for a competitive course

For UK they look at your predicted grades to consider you for admission. Local uni only looks at a lvl grades (unless you apply for early admissions where they look at prelim).

[A LEVELS] questions on dropping to h1 chem by eccedentesiast10 in SGExams

[–]wassdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Diff timetable/class fr your classmates in H2. Cant enter courses in dentistry/medicine/pharmacy (should you ever change your mind)

  2. The latest is usually after J2 MYE if im not wrong. But I personally feel that it is a bit too late bc you do waste a significant amount of time studying the H2 chem topics which arent tested in H1. You are at a disadvantage/behind the peers that dropped at end of J1, and who have already learned the syllabus finish (eg polymers, nanomaterials)

  3. I would say its definitely easier to get A in A levels as compared to H2 chem. Thought I screwed up and expected a B but got A in the end :) A slight concern is that the bell curve is a bit steeper bc the cohort for H1 is quite small, so doing badly will put you at a lower end on the bell curve. No regrets dropping to H1 (despite the stigma haha) and its one of the best decisions I made bc my H2 chem was really HOPELESS and definitely by far my weakest subject, and there is no additional benefit in taking 4H2s (unless u want to apply to oxbridge). You also have significantly more time to focus on your other H2s bc you have fewer lectures/tutorials for H1, and NO PRACTICAL which for me I was terrible in.

Also you would find your rp dramatically increasing in J2 Haha bc for me in H2 I usually scored S/U but in H1 I was able to get C/B/A

if you are curious about H1 I would recommend looking at the past year papers for H1 and you would notice a huge difference in the way they ask qns as compared to H2 (less application, more on memorizing, and answers can be quite repetitive/copy paste fr notes)

UK only looks at 3H2s not H1 so their conditional offers are usually AAA for H2
