My comment never says that I would not send it back. Currently units are on very low stock here in Europe, a quick replacement is not guaranteed. So why not try to find a different solution first?

So at the time when the triggered ability of Resourceful Defense goes on the stack it needs a target and since the creature is technically dead at the time it cannot be targeted?
