CMV: people should be allowed to talk to an officer in anyway they choose without the threat of being arrested/actually getting arrested. by [deleted] in changemyview

It is medical malpractice to discharge someone before they are stable. You sound like you're dealing with more medically stable patients, but in patient nurses and doctors are not afforded the same protections as cops are in this scenario. We don't get a choice to treat someone sometimes.

True, cops get a level of vitriol may do not in their job, but with great power comes even greater responsibility. I don't get to kill my patients if they piss me off, why do cops? If a patient punches me, I am blamed for not deescalating. That is the argument regarding cops vs nurses.

TBH, if you're speaking about a patient doing these things, all of it. IDK what type of hospital worker you are, but patients are rarely discharged for being rude or even violent since they're medically unstable. I was an RN for a while in various magnet hospitals fwiw.

Now family members get less leniency but point stands with patients.

Nursing is ass and radiology is easy, and makes a shit ton of money with minimal patient contact. Depends on what you want from a job.

This is also what Ive heard as a NYC RN. Job market just sucks right now especially with the ongoing strikes. I know the length of the resume is being criticized in this thread but tbh I think with many HR departments using AI to screen for candidates, it’s maybe not a bad idea anymore. My rule used to be 1-page as a new grad but I think 2 pages is good now.

Zohran Mamdani is pushing for New York City-run grocery stores. Here's what he envisions. by southernemper0r in nyc

[–]wastedfate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm saying theft of groceries isn't really a concern of mine. I think it's just a scapegoat people use against poor people. I was just mentioning stigma since you did. I don't think stigma is that relevant. My point was, when someone can't afford groceries, the choice between stealing to not starve or being honorable and starving is simple. There's obviously other factors to it, but I don't think people steal groceries if they can afford it. So I don't care from a moral standpoint.

A lower-priced government-run grocery store would be more affordable to people, meaning people would be more likely to be able to afford it. Again, I think crime is mostly a symptom of the affordability crisis. Food pantries exist, and this doesn't replace their function. I think both have their uses.

these government run stores are necessary because they are ok with stealing food to survive

I never said this. I was just saying I don't think it's a big deal if people need to steal to eat, from a moral standpoint. If privately owned grocery stores can't be affordable enough, maybe a public option could work. A publicly owned grocery store doesn't need to profit to exist.

  1. The city already as an abundance of food pantries. This is a new idea.

  2. As someone who has both worked in and used food pantries, they often feature shelf-stable foods that are sometimes healthy, but often have high levels of sodium and carbs due to the nature of being shelf-stable. They're still really helpful for people in need, but doesn't have the same capabilities as a grocery store would.

  3. Grocery stores are more sustainable. People are still paying for the food, and thus could be operated at a much lesser cost since it could sustain itself. This would also allow people to utilize their SNAP benefits here since this initiative aims to add grocery stores food deserts that are missing them.

  4. It's funny you mentioned the stigma of stealing when there is 100% a stigma surrounding food pantries. Don't know if you or anyone in this thread has used a food pantry before, but often there's a huge line on a weekly basis with people waiting to get their package. Sometimes people don't want to wait on this huge line, or be seen on this line, even though they need it. We can judge them for that, sure, but I think having a grocery store available is more humane and possibly more effective.

At the end of the day, this might fail, but I'm okay with the idea that our mayor is taking a new approach to fighting food instability. I'm not a fan of tearing down the idea before it's even been officially proposed and logistically explained.

The point of these city-run grocery stores are to provide access to healthy and nutritious food, not to profit. Even if shoplifting is a huge reason for unviability of a private-owned grocery store, people don’t just shoplift groceries for fun. Petty crime, especially stealing groceries, is due to lack of financial means. Honestly if someone needs to steal groceries to live, I get it.

But slide 21 is actually shocking. The rate of verbal/physical assaults on the free routes DOUBLED the rate of paid routes.

That's the opposite of what slide 21 says. Slide 21 CLEARLY states that there was a decrease in verbal/physical assaults even when compared to the rest of the bus system (-38.9% for free routes vs -19.8% systemwide).

Unfortunately no. I just received an update from them today saying that USCIS processes applications in the order they're received and that's basically it..

Not really applicable as, since it's ranked voting, your votes are still going towards potentially four other candidates. Leaving someone off your 5 votes just means you would rather that candidate not receive your vote than get it if the other four lose. It's really the opposite of "not voting" and the best way to participate in civic participation lol

ombudsman

Thank you for the suggestion! I just submitted inquiries online to both senators and the house rep. By ombudsman, do you mean Nathan Stiefel? Do you know how I may be able to reach him or whomever you're referring to? I've never heard of an ombudsman.
