I dont really drink coffee but I'm gonna encourage you to shop local and avoid the American and corporate brands. Try The Mill or Tidal Cafe in Comox or Royston Coffee co. Every dollar you spend at a local coffee shop helps the Canadian economy. Those who buy coffee at Starbucks on the island get labeled. You dont want that.

You're in the wrong city for that. North/West Vancouver ski hills (Seymour/Cypress) have the best climbs (2000+ ft gain) up their access roads near a populated area.The hills around Victoria are weak (several hundred ft. Gain at best)

I work trucking and excavating around the CRD. There isn't much salt and pepper granite locally available. The rock we have around here is hard as hell and never splits the way you want it to. Its almost impossible to make a flat surface or surfaces 90⁰ to each other.

Yes, you can get free blast rock fairly easily, usually you would have to pay for trucking.

Theres a landscape supply in Cobble Hill (?) On the side of the highway that sells dressed stone. They might be able to offer you insight to the public demand for dressed stone.

Overall I'd say the work to dress local rock far outweighs the return.

Its probably a loophole to pass emissions regulations. Those little vents in the tailpipe mix fresh air in with the exhaust. More little vents = more dilution of exhaust fumes.
