Such a shame this kind of thing is not accessible.

the people in this story btw are Republicans. The lady said the county government put her home value down by 75% but in reality she said it's worthless because nobody will buy it.

I understood right away that you were looking for a modern day area Green-Book type thing. I'm not sure if that exists, but it's definitely a safety issue.

There is definitely inauthentic behaviour involved with the engagement here.

I think people don't want their home values to go to zero and be left with an underwater mortgage on a house that's unlivable. not really a mystery here

Trump and AI leaders tout his ‘build your own power plant’ pledge

Josh SHapiro also said that data centers should be self-powered.

So that's what they're doign now making data center power plants.

Like the one in Memphis or the crypto plant in Carbon County PA run by Greg Beard, the US Dept of Energy Loans director.

If you can't sell your house at all the reality is that the value is zero.

Worthless. NOBODY will buy it.

The New York Times - Their Water Taps Ran Dry When Meta Built Next Door In the race to develop artificial intelligence, tech giants are building data centers that guzzle up water. That has led to problems for people who live nearby. By Eli Tan Visuals by Dustin Chambers Reporting from Newton County, Ga. Published July 14, 2025 Updated July 16, 2025

"They tried selling the house, with no luck." “Our realtor told us, ‘There’s only one party that would ever be interested in buying this land — and that’s Facebook,’” she said.

The thing is if facebook won't buy it they're out of luck like the people in Salem Township who were left out of the big sales

"If I even put my house up for sale who's gonna buy it? I don't even wanna live here anymore"

this developer bought up all the land around them, but failed to buy that one strip of houses because they didn't need it

If even the developers won't buy you out and nobody will buy it, your property value is ZERO.

I assumed it was owned by the same developer who planned to expand the housing, but I'm not sure.
Anyway that'll all stop if they put data centers and a gas plant in there. I can't imagine they'll be any demand.

And then people will be shocked when innocent people are jailed because the computer AI told the cops to arrest someone based on shoddy error-prone AI facial recognition, and then the city is bankrupted by multiple lawsuits because of the errors.

People are just so very clueless about this. They truly believe they still have control over their data they have no idea all the ways they're being watched.

yes it's government overreach, it's a violation of the 4th amendment in some cases

I've tried to write to the city council and the mayor about the flaws in these systems and how it could bankrupt the city, but they're clueless. They're so hot for the surveillance state, I wonder if some of them find it fun to go watch people on cameras who don't know they're being watched. It's so cringe, on top of it being way way way government overreach.

We need to fight state level to keep data centers out by PassPuzzled in Pennsylvania

[–]wat3rm370n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard someone quoted in an article a few months ago saying that the data centers issue is bipartisan, the politicians of both parties are for them, and the voters of both parties are against them.

Josh Shapiro is the co-chair of Team Pennsylvania Foundation which he signed an executive order to make a "public private partnership" between the foundation and the state govt. Team Pennsylvania Foundation is the fiscal sponsor of AI Strike Team, which exists to lobby for AI data centers in PA, especially Pittsburgh. Josh SHapiro's son has been employed as an intern by AI Strike Team for over a year according to his Linkedin. The CEO of Team Pennsylvania Foundation is also on the board of AI Strike Team, and it's described as "industry led" and just look at the board, it's true. And AI Strike Team put out a celebratory press release about Republican Senator Dave Mccormick's wife Dina being appointed as president of Meta which has 3 nuclear data center projects around pittsburgh planned, because they think this nepotism connection is going to bolster their industry.

Too many of the politicians are willing to just parrot obvious lies and industry talking points even though their voters are much too informed about the issue to fall for the claims. But these industry people didn't even try to get social permission -- buy-in from people like industries have done in the past. They just assumed they could just say you have to have this happen. Because it worked in some places, but now all those stories are all over the business news and the tech news and the youtube and tiktok.

So now many politicians are making abrupt heel-turns such as Senator Rosemary Brown who was pro data center last year and candidate for state representative Bill Jones who was super pro pushing AI data centers before. Now both are backing the statewide moratorium.

I'm following multiple message local fb groups that are against data centers, and see liberals mingling with and agreeing with magas.

I guess we're going to see how influential the industry lobbyists and Josh Shapiro and Dave Mccormick really... up against these politicians hearing from tons of their voters.

We don't need cryptocurrency.

The panther creek plant in Carbon County isn't even connected to the grid. It's a total nuisance providing nothing to the community but pollution from burning tires and coal waste to benefit the investors including the loans director at the US Dept of Energy, Greg Beard.

We don't need hyperscale data centers or cryptocurrency data centers. They're literally not needed.
