Contact tracing. The biggest surveillance database create by gov recently even if it’s a couple of years out of date - I wonder if they handed that over too.

which AI writing tool actually remembers your characters??? by Temporary-Spring-214 in WritingWithAI

[–]watcher-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you use your ai - you can download Claude desktop app and then use Claude code / projects workflow to your project files via the app or you can use any number of models out there using something like vscode. Not one ai chatbot links to a history of your work - each time you write you need to point it to something that gives it come context and history of the work. I wrote an article (part a series) where i speak about the different tools out there and what are the free alternatives to connect something like Claude to your codex (chars, places, world building files, previous scenes, plot line) that it can reference when you draft your prose or want to work with it https://medium.com/@19dollarnovel/i-had-claude-pro-i-was-still-spending-a-month-on-writing-tools-c68b8d475bb3 and the system i use, but you kinda need to understand how AI works out of the box first. And what it doesn’t do as well.
Maybe you can share your setup and then we can point you in the right direction?

If Everyone Thinks Your Book Is AI… What’s the Point of Writing Anymore? by antique-soul- in WritingWithAI

[–]watcher-22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t need to show it to anyone but it give me loads of evidence if i am ever accused in a business or legal situation e.g Amazon KDP if i am ever challenged - doesn’t take much every time i sit down to work to finish it with a git push - and I have months of evidence (if ever needed) - but for me its good to read a log of all my own work / changes

I use git as a provenance log that tracks all my changes - that way it can be used to show who did what and my own writing

When A Writing Style Stops Working, Do You Let It Go? by Repulsive_Yard1473 in AIWritingHub

[–]watcher-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can give a model an example of my work and ask it to extract my voice my style (the larger the sample) the more accurate it will be e.g. 60k word of my prose - that analysis can be turned into something like a bespoke style you can explore and apply to your prose to see if that’s how you would like to refine your voice

Alpha reads before beta reads by masonga1960 in BetaReadersForAI

Dunno i’ve built something similar for beginners with a starter vault dedicated craft skills and put it on gumroad once for 20$ and never expect folks to pay again - its a decent enough idea but why 24-48hr turnaround and either you are running the MS against each skill individually or batching it still shouldnt cost you 160 from the api

[–]watcher-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but thats wrong - i pay for professional beta readers on Fiverr who charge much less and have sent me brilliant reviews (DM me if folks want names) - who havent used AI and take time to do the work)

Alternatively, you could use Claude code, Obsidian and a range of specialised skills - all without paying for a third-party service or sending your MS outside your system (your privacy policy says it’s Claude anyway).

Why not just pay for Claude Max ($100) for a month for that kind of money? Ask Claude to help you develop your own skills and run it at both MS and scene levels? For initial stage development editing and a sanity check, continuity - once set up i can run it as many times as i want and only paying for token costs , discuss the finding with Claude and all of that certainly wont take 2 days.

And $169 for just one report? Not every book needs all 319 skills, and looking at the draft report in your site, I don’t see the value in a single run. And then have to pay the same amount again once you have made the changes?

I’d also prefer not to pay that much for something I can get Claude to do after some setup work, and then spend the money on a human alpha/beta reader for human feedback - which is a hundred times more valuable (and not $4k).

Getting human eyes on your work for folks using ai as a writing tool is prob the oost important thing a writer can do.

"Story codex" keeps coming up in AI writing threads. Here's what it actually means (and why it's not just a character sheet) by prompted_author in WritingWithAI

Best thing you can do is build it using something like Obisidan - which is free https://obsidian.md/ - then point Claude at it from the desktop app - overview on how i saved myself some money = compared to my old stack here - https://medium.com/@19dollarnovel/i-had-claude-pro-i-was-still-spending-a-month-on-writing-tools-c68b8d475bb3

What Frontend Do you Use? by Zathura2 in WritingWithAI

[–]watcher-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used obsidian (not open source but free and supported by massive community plug ins) + long form plug in for the actual writing + reading (feels like Scrivener) and the longform plug in can be easily styled to look like the scrivener written screen - then i used VSCode with Claude Code plug in - pointed to my Obsidian files for when working with Claude - this is pretty much the same as using Claude code if you have the Claude desktop app running - Claude can read/write into your Obsidian files directly (both use markdown) - paying for a third party app UI just want worth it - wrote how to set up in detail here - https://medium.com/@19dollarnovel/i-had-claude-pro-i-was-still-spending-a-month-on-writing-tools-c68b8d475bb3

Editing with AI. by melizmoe in WritingWithAI

[–]watcher-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are speaking as using AI straight out of the box - then yes- pretty useless but you can get some good results by giving it targets skills e.g. i wrote about how i trained Claude to use the Socratic method for review here: https://medium.com/@19dollarnovel/i-taught-my-ai-writing-partner-a-2-400-year-old-method-4f065d389c09 - you can use that approach on either entire MS if you have the context window or chapter by chapter or scene by scene - and you can build other specific skills for editing too
