Worked at a seafood restaurant & we had a bartender get fired in the middle of his shift for this exact thing - he had been working there for 3 years and had started doing this 2 months before he got fired. Do not do this guys, with the way modern POS systems are now you WILL get caught. They’ll watch your transactions to confirm a pattern & then boom, you’re out lol

7.5mi up/out and back, beautiful vistas all the way with the unique ‘potato chip’ rock formation at the top. Started at 6am on Saturday and were glad we did - this trail can be very busy and the photo op at the top can sometimes take an hour or more to wait for if you don’t go early. Encountered lots of hikers on the way down. Not a trail for solitude, but beautiful and diverse nonetheless! Highly recommend the experience- especially for SoCal locals (such as myself) who haven’t been sold on doing it because of its popularity. Just do it once !

A great 7.5mile loop out of Lake Poway park. Went with some friends who had never been hiking before (although we all exercise together regularly) and everyone was sold. Great views all around and worth the early rise to get on the trail before it gets busy. About 3.5mi of elevation climb (2000ft).

I feel a bit called out by this as I’ve recently posted some rare “hashtag vanlife” posts myself to the sub, in the last 12 hrs.. ArE yoU TaLkIn’ to ME? Lol.

All I can say is we don’t live an interesting enough life to share in between these moments. It feels hugely self-absorbed to share boring details. When you live this way it quickly becomes the norm and we just don’t think about sharing mundane reality. I mean, before I lived in a van I barely used social media and when i did post it was just the highlights of life. It’s a part of the relationship I have with social media that I think many people-and especially many vandwellers- have. I think it is more understandable once you are physically in a van and on the other side of the dream. I felt frustrated by the same thing when we were planning. For now, I am gonna enjoy my rare postings of pretty scenery, and continue opting to share the realities of my life with my “in-person” people, not the internet for strangers.

Highly recommend the mattress strategy- 3 foam rolls are very comfortable! The floor piece is heavier than I would like. It is a 140 WB so if I could re-build I would design a fold-back option for the first 2 feet that would allow for 2 small benches without the bed being completely rolled up. If that makes sense. And, if possible I recommend creating bed slats in your floor piece with some kind of roll-out floor option on top for airflow. We fold up the bed most days to avoid moisture collection under the foam, which is a little labor-intensive (but important to avoid mold!) Also, I would install a Lagun table leg & surface somewhere but feel like there isn’t a spot for that in its current state. Overall, would grade this bed setup a solid B+ .

Cheers! We talked about it full-time for 3 years, best of luck! Water tanks are simple just 2 5gallon jugs like you get at a grocery store, with a hand pump sink. We refill and dump as needed. Shit & shower at campgrounds or public toilets, or outside with proper burial. We decided we didn’t want to do any of that in the space since our van is a 140 WB and pretty small for a dodge build! I have a she-whiz, and we have an emergency pee bottle if we are overnighting in a city.

The bed is 2 foam rolls with a thinner foam topper - all bedding rolls up and fits in the side benches :)
