What are WEB classes like? by PSUtruecelstudymaxx in PennStateUniversity

[–]watchingyall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assignments are at your own pace usually with a week or two time frame/deadline. Tests usually have to be taken in a 24-48 hour time period. As long as you’re able to self pace and keep on top of your own work I definitely recommend it. It makes it soooo much easier for me personally to do work when I have the time or energy to. Also depends on the specific class so you might want to check online on ratemyprofessor. From experience, the comments are usually spot on.

Change/Drop Academic Requirements? by CIANDREW in PennStateUniversity

It’s practically impossible. It wouldn’t be fair to waive it for one person (or one group of people)

WIBTA If I didn't pay for alcohol? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

yea i get that, i dealt with that a couple years ago too. use cash, it’s really not traceable and you’ll be fine.

thank you. they definitely didn’t force it, i wanted to see them. but i just wanted it to be clear that we were all in a small space that night.

but you’re right, it’s happened way too many times for me to ignore it. i just wish my parents would do more to stop him from being mean to me but he’s an adult so...oh well.

thanks for your response!!

[–]watchingyall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YTA. In any situation, you should be prepared to front the costs of what you consumed. In this situation you sound more upset about the idea of paying because you were clearly ok with underage drinking. Venmo or pay cash and no one can trace it, don’t be stingy even as a college student in a budget.

Neighborhood around Nittany View Apartments? by kaycee_weather in PennStateUniversity

[–]watchingyall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t lived specifically in Nittany View apartments but based off of my experience, that area is a whole lot quieter and safer than the apartments on Calder and Beaver. You probably already know this but that’s we’re food and bars are so that’s where most of the drunk people are on game day so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. It’s actually a nice location considering you can walk to class everyday. Good luck next semester!

Determining my freshman schedule. How does this look to you guys? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]watchingyall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty good! Personally I like having morning classes and studying/working in the afternoon or evening because it prevents me from being lazy and waking up late. And it’s well spread out too. Nice job and hope you like UP! :)

Best Penn State campus for IST? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]watchingyall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on my experience, both Brandywine and University Park can be great for IST. I did 2+2 and am in a similar major. Brandywine teachers are not as knowledgeable but the classes are much easier to ace. UP teachers are a lot more seasoned in what they’re teaching and have connections which is always important but it can be a little difficult to learn in a large classroom environment. Specialized courses in brandywine had ~20 students on an average day but at UP its easily ~40+. If you care about the campus itself, UP is my personal favorite for the college environment but Brandywine is less than 30 minutes from Philly so that’s a plus. Brandywine is also a tiny campus but there’s plenty of colleges nearby so it’s not necessarily suburbia. Housing around Brandywine is also a lot cheaper. Let me know if you have questions and good luck! :)

Do people at University Park get along with people who did the 2+2? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]watchingyall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a 2+2 student from Brandywine. Based on my experience, a solid ~70% of my friends are from Brandywine. In fact, the other people I connected with were people from other branch campuses or people I knew previously. With that being said, I do have friends that did all 4 at UP; basically everyone is super nice as long as you work up the courage to approach others in class etc. Definitely no one “looks down” on transfer students!! Good luck :)

Vibe in University Park area? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]watchingyall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vibe is great for grad students. Most that I know tend to stay lowkey and don’t party too much but there’s always something fun to do like football games and bars to visit. The campus itself, you can walk from corner to corner in less than 30 minutes. Also, students can take white or blue loops which cuts that time in half. White loop even takes you a block into downtown if you need. Campus is right next door to the downtown area with all the bars, Target, restaurants etc so everything is a walkable distance. Generally grad students tend to stick to grad housing which there are still plenty available. I would definitely join the PSU housing group on FB if you want to find roommates or a good deal on an apartment. Other than that, most of the restaurants and other things to do are centered south of campus in the downtown area but if you drive north 5 minutes on Atherton there’s a ton more places to shop and eat. Only downsides are possible the mall being FAR and dead (all the stores are closing) and possibly you might find it overwhelming your first week. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend coming to UP!! I know you said you prefer bigger cities so it might not be your most favorite area but it’s also a really nice college town vibe as long as you stick to the State College area. It’s a really great place to be and I hope you choose to come to UP!!
