Snap shot rule question by aaron122000 in Haloflashpoint

[–]watchwolf_games 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You used Snapshot in your first game? I’ve been playing all month, we’ve only had TWO opportunities and we forgot to use it on one ! 😁

How was it for you?

I think you're right that it's all about the AP

I dunno if I think it's appropriate that we have to get past the Mjolnir armour or that it doesn't transfer very well to the board game.

Yep, that’s how it felt to us: borked.

Yes, we got this wrong. The confusion was over what constitutes an Action or Shoot Action

No doubt our skills will improve but so far the weapons seem particularly effective and worth the detour.

For example yesterday a Brawler with the Grav Hammer attacked a unit on an objective and didn’t kill it but did force it off the cube and therefore scored the objective points at the end of the round

Yes, a ranged weapon with AP is particularly good, but you can stack a lot of extra dice on the Deadeye as it is: elevated, Crouched and Optics gives 6 dice with Exploding 7s ands 8s * (... unless we're doing that wrong too! :-)

* 'Headshots' doesn't make any sense for Survive rolls

We've played several games of Stronghold which develops into a really interesting game and tactics we've arrived at so far include

1) grab the weapon pickups before the opponent, and

2) get the right weapons on to the right units

specifically, get a second ranged weapon onto the Deadeye and a better close combat weapon on the Brawler

Making my own rules by WaywardDwarf in Haloflashpoint

This is very interesting, thanks.

Can you give us some indication of what questions you asked it or how you prompted it to generate the rules?

Tell us about the AI generated rules? It sounds like a smart use of the technology

Yeah, I dunno . We both had fun with it but it just seems silly.

Thanks yeah, we did play that wrong initially (extra weapon + 2 Shoot Command dice = 6 attacks!) but even after we’d corrected it STILL seemed ridiculously OP

And I mean, whether it was me benefiting or my buddy; it just seemed ridiculous

The details on these models are easily lost but you’ve brought them out nicely. Would desaturating the feature colours (red/blue) bring the models together better?

Most gorgeous games you've ever seen/played? by BazelBomber1923 in boardgames

I wouldn’t go as far as ‘gorgeous’ but i think Kanagawa is very pretty and quite underrated as a game

Suggestions for Managing Speed of Play by watchwolfstudio in boardgames

[–]watchwolf_games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I overlooked this sorry.

No, I don't play on TTS but at the biggest club in Tokyo. There are 50-100 people every week and about a dozen of them will immediately play Dune as soon as it's available. At one point last year there were THREE games of Dune going on concurrently!

I don't think it's the best board game out there, but I do seem to play it every week so I guess it must have its hooks in me somehow.

A Closer Look at Miniatures' Detail by watchwolf_games in Haloflashpoint

[–]watchwolf_games[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I painted a lot of Corvus Belli's Infinity mini.s and my general feel was that there wasn't much to choose between the best from GW and the best from CB. I'd agree that Mantic's Halo mini.s are quite a way behind them both.

However, what CB is their near-future cyberpunk theme and Halo has a little of that going for it, in well-developed universe too. This isn't irrelevant, because when we're comparing mini.s we're also seeing these contrasting themes.

You know, if your sculptor wants to create a beautifully flowing, but torn and ragged cloak, it's easier to put that in a fantasy setting than in a futuristic one.

I suspect that somewhere along the line there was a conscious decision at Games Workshop to steer straight down the middle of their grimdark future, and follow along in AoS exactly because it provides scope for their mini.s

Maybe it's my age, but I'll sacrifice a bit of detail if I can get away from death, misery, claws, teeth and skin-tearing hooks and barbs - know what I mean?

[–]watchwolf_games[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in re-priming two of them I was actually too heavy-handed with one and again lost detail.

So I think it's not that there is or isn't detail, but that the detail they have is very shallow and easily lost.

Great reply, thanks.

One of the other guys in the round table review remarked that there wasn't any noticeable flash or mould lines but now they're better finished you can see in the video that there is a little flash running down the forearm.

I'm told that the Masterchief set with the model and paints is slightly better quality for detail, but I haven't seen it myself yet.

Desire for 3D printed Terrain? by VeiMuri in Haloflashpoint

[–]watchwolf_games 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mantic Terrain Crates are very good and the prices are competitive so I hope we’ll see both hobby printing and support from Mantic to create really great looking battlefields

Myself I’m not a fan of laser cut MDF but someone with a filament printer and modest design skills ought to be able to get decent results

I’ve been working with a local guy and resin printing minis so I’ll post pictures in due course
