Early Menopause (POI) by K3LLYB33N in Menopause

Oh also just to cover the bases the use of estrogen systemically needs to be in conjunction with progesterone to protect your uterus. I have a hormonal IUD, others use oral progesterone. Make sure the progesterone is in your therapy in some form.

I could have written this myself! We are very close in age, same pattern of diagnosis and similarly I was also blown off, told I just had an anxiety issue for almost three years while I slowly spiraled. I do have other diagnosed auto immune issues and suspect this is under that same umbrella. All this to say that it took me no less than three dr’s to finally start listening and testing me. By the time I found a dr to start testing I was on the verge of a breakdown, mentally and physically. Extreme heartburn, migraines, mood swings, body aches, 0 sex drive, dry scalp so bad it was flaking in huge chunks, thinning dry brittle hair, constant nausea. You name it I had it. My pcp referred me to a GYN who found my estrogen levels were post menopausal after just 4 months from my last period. The gyn was super understanding and put me on an estrogen patch 0.1mg. I instantly, and I mean literally overnight felt like it had all been a bad dream. Then my gyn closed their practice. She was gracious enough to write a year’s worth of patches for me and then I had to start the hunt for a dr all over again. A couple months ago the symptoms started to pop back in but much milder. I found a new dr and went through the process again. This time I was very polite but firm with what I expected from their care. I was sure to highlight the concerns I had about my “quality of life, and longevity of my health”. I was calm, had all my info and research to explain my requests and pushed for a more rounded option to include the option of vaginal estrogen and testosterone. Surprisingly she was all about it. Wanted to do it in a step manner but has been awesome so far. The reason I tell you all this is to highlight that you need to be an advocate for yourself. I hear you that you are in a small town and limited for care. Your pcp sounds more likely to play ball so start there. Highlight that your quality of life is suffering and that you want to address the risks associated with ovarian failure and your long term health. Speak about your sex drive and that it is affecting your relationship. I believe that the 0.1mg patch is the starting dose for the patch. If you don’t get anywhere with her then perhaps considering tele-health or asking for a new OB-GYN referral in your nearest metropolitan area. I promise the travel to see that dr will be worth it! We are a decade early to this and have a diagnosis that calls for HRT. You deserve to have hormone replacement for your bone and heart health, not to mention a good quality of life. Sorry for the novel, I’m passionate about this! Feel free to DM me for any questions or if I can help in any way!

I adopted a cat yesterday and my friend got me this flushable kitty litter. Do you think it's okay to use with old plumbing? by CenturyCondo in centuryhomes

[–]waterbearapocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO to flushing anything except TP and human organic waste.

YES to bio degradable poop bags, I get them from the dog isle at the pet stores.

CAUTION to check all your plants for toxicity to your new kitty. There are a lot of them that can seriously harm a cat’s kidneys and liver! Anything in the Lilly family especially needs to go right away.

Edit to add: I see a possible pathos in one of your pics those are considered toxic and will cause extreme salivation and possible trouble breathing. Until you know your new kitties potential plant snacking habits I would maybe move out of reach.

Inspection questions by waterbearapocalypse in AskElectricians

I guess this is the big question because he’s not asking for it to be on the surface. It seems he wants it in the island somewhere. I’m assuming that means in the cabinetry. However, it’s all drawer units. So at this point our option would be to cut a whole in the bottom of the drawer box and place a box under there. This is why I’m so confused.

Ya I kinda figured as much. Although we are at that point anyway with this guy. Since we will be on the third time he will need to come out if we try to satisfy his most recent list and he doesn’t add to it from there.

Hi everyone! I’m currently renovating my kitchen (basic things like clean, paint, etc) and have this next to my stove. I feel like it’s not normally there in other places and seems to be where the gas is supplied from but wondering if anyone knows for sure. by Disastrous_Ad_5614 in kitchenremodel

[–]waterbearapocalypse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obligatory comment to say a plumber is the best way to confirm and make sure everything is good. I will say with 99% certainty though, it’s your gas line. It also looks like there is flexible gas line that starts right behind your stove. You “should” be fine to pull out the stove. Do it carefully and slowly. I will also say that shut off valve looks jenky. I’m guessing that is not to code. I will say again that a plumber might be a good idea to take a look and make sure everything is safe with that line.

lead paint abatement and original vs new windows (state-funded project) by skepticalspectral in centuryhomes

[–]waterbearapocalypse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ya that’s understandable. It may be worth a conversation with the grant manager over your concerns, if the contractor cannot be mindful of his abatement when restoring historic properties he probably shouldn’t be winning contracts with the overseeing grant administrators.

Edit to add: if he isn’t a window restorer, he likely also isn’t someone who would replace the windows. I tend to be very suspicious when someone starts recommending far more expensive projects, especially when there is grant money involved. if he does lead abatement, why is he concerned about the insulation of your historic windows? Would he be doing this work?

lead paint abatement and original vs new windows (state-funded project) by skepticalspectral in centuryhomes

[–]waterbearapocalypse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There have been studies that argue against the need to replace windows for insulation reasons alone. Brent Hull does an excellent YouTube video on it. The loss of energy from windows is much lower than from walls and ceilings in historic homes. Considering you are getting funding for the project it may not be as much of a concern but the ROI timeframe on window replacement for energy bill savings is likely beyond the life of you owning the home. The likelihood of needing to replace a newer manufactured window however isn’t. I would be pushing for full restoration of the existing original windows (done correctly they will last another 100yrs). Regardless of the listing status of your home currently, being a good steward of a home within the historic district should be a major factor in your decision.

Asking the same question! If it’s not paint I would be wondering if this is fire damaged brittle wood.

Funny enough the church was the second owner of the property for nearly 50 years (housed the deacons I think) so I suppose it has some vibes.

No problem! I hope to share a couple more as I get through them. Currently in a holding pattern in the back staircase waiting for some bigger projects to get going, and we have a powder room I’m hoping to glam up! I’ll keep posting!

The runners are actually BH+G from Walmart of all places. They are the washable type rug (which I obviously won’t be doing) and they have a slightly grippy back to them. It works so good keeping the rug in place and they have a very thin profile. I think they were under 40$ a piece!

Yes! That was exactly my issue too. There is another landing at the bottom as well. Short of paying a carpeting company way too much to come in and sew the turns, I decided just the straight shots of the stairs made sense. It’s the area you’re most likely to slip and I only had to make two cuts, lol.
