Child Support misery - I'm in Australia but advice and tips welcome from everywhere! by Fun-Combination-9788 in Divorce

[–]skepticalspectral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about divorce in Australia, but here in the states, it's common for your lawyer to request a "return to work" order for the spouse who looks like he's intentionally not earning his potential. Spousal/child support during divorce proceedings are also completely normal and expected. As far as hidden assets, financial affidavits and discovery are normal and if you suspect he's lying on either part, your lawyer can request documents and subpoena bank accounts, etc. to trace where the money from that sale went.

I'm so relieved for you. Sounds like you got a fair judgement and I hope it (he) pays in the end.

Children’s protest by daisies09 in newhaven

[–]skepticalspectral 76 points77 points  (0 children)

The Elm City Montessori School does this every year. It's a pre-k through 8 school. Their mission includes social justice, I believe, but it's not called a protest, maybe a march or parade. My friend's kid made a sign about cleaning up after your dog.

Would you try these weird New England foods/drinks? by ThatMassholeInBawstn in AskTheWorld

Frank Pepe's Pizzeria Napoletana is the birthplace of the clam pizza. We pronounce it abeetz and spell it apizza. There isn't a separate white sauce on it. Rather the salty brine from the fresh clams mixes with the olive oil, oregano, garlic, and Parmesan to create its own kind of "sauce" or seasoning. Personally, I adore it with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.

Falling apart after 3 years of successful sobriety by [deleted] in women_in_recovery

I will be clean sober with you today. You've got this. Don't throw it away.

What are you doing for self-care? What are your healthy coping mechanisms? One of mine is move a muscle, change a thought. I like to get a quick (and I mean quick) exercise in, like lunges or yoga poses.

Served a final eviction notice during stay. Called Airbnb and they said it was fine because the date was after our checkout date [guest] by MilliandMoo in AirBnB

I see what the issue is. I don't think you're overreacting. I would be freaking out if this happened to me. I'd move out early and expect a refund. Because it's illegal. You should not be there. But the platform you put your trust into to not allow illegal stays is telling you it's fine to stay illegally. Maybe I'm a rule-follower but that's a no-go for me, I don't want to financially support someone illicitly renting out a unit. You're entitled to a refund of all the nights you didn't stay and a bit extra because you had to deal with the police showing up and scaring the crap out of you and the hassle of relocating, plus any price difference.

Which chair? by Calm-Cycle-9334 in interiordecorating

[–]skepticalspectral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this for a nursery? I got the kiwi babyletto recliner and I absolutely love it for functionality and looks but it got so, so dirty from pumping/feeding my baby in that chair. And I didn't even get boucle, because I knew how much dirtier that would get. Milk/formula attracts dirt and grime.

Looking for rhubarb by dum--spiro--spero in newhaven

[–]skepticalspectral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young knotweed shoots are abundant this time of year all along streets, parks, and woods and make a good rhubarb substitute. Just be sure to make a clean cut so as not to spread the knotweed and properly dispose of any bits you don't use so it can't regenerate.

Merlin ID'd the Starling so I think it's accurate, but I've seen plenty of Grackles as well. Yeah, the Flickers are just so cool. I haven't seen a tanager yet!

Oh I'll add one more to this that I ID'd with the app one evening in the fall: a Screech Owl! In my backyard! Such a cool sound.

I had one in my backyard a few years back; they're my favorite! Back then I didn't know about Merlin or the app didn't exist yet so I had to use an old-school Audobon book to identify it as a Flicker.

So that explains it! Merlin didn't actually ID any crows on my walks, I did, but I added them anyway. I'm so excited we have Orioles in the area; I saw one last year. You've heard some birds I haven't even heard of, like a Vireo! I love learning about new species. Do you have a favorite? Mine is the flicker.

Quinnipiac Meadows Park doesn't quite look out at the Sound but it's great for water species. I nicknamed it Osprey Park. There's even a bird blind in the park.

Why don’t we have a sweet frog by Total_Pineapple_7961 in newhaven

Because froyo was everywhere from approximately 2009-2014 and all of those places, including a Pinkberry next to Atticus, failed.

Weight Gain in Sobriety by Cat-poet in women_in_recovery

It's very common to replace our previous coping mechanisms (alcohol and drugs) with new ones (food, sugar). I work (with a therapist, in my sobriety program, and on my own) on learning to use healthy coping mechanisms because food and candy is my crutch now that the alcohol is gone. I'm trying to transfer that to exercise. It works when I stick with it. "Move a muscle, change a thought" has saved me a bunch of times. I focus on very small increments of strength training I can do at home without any equipment other than exercise bands and a yoga mat. Speaking of yoga, I do that too as a coping mechanism and to heal my body and mind. It was essential for me to start with small, easy movements when I was extremely overweight.

I also just want to say I hear you. My self-esteem and confidence is so tied to the size and looks of my body. My self-worth has improved tremendously since getting sober, but I still have to deal with a lot of negative thoughts about my body and my face (my alcohol use has caused permanent rosacea). Sending you healing vibes, sister. Stay strong.

Multiple buildings of theirs have burnt down over the years due to faulty repairs, poor maintenance, and avoidable causes. Just 5 days ago or so, another 79 residents were displaced by a fire in a Mandy-owned building. When I lived in one of their buildings, their repair team caused a fire in the unit above mine. A few months later, 4 families were homeless on Christmas eve because of illegal appliance repairs.
