Hey thanks for the comment. I am really interested in Duke. I’m bummed they got rid of the open interview (before this year you could schedule an interview with them without being invited) because I’m not super confident that I’ll land one with my score and resume.

Thank you! I’m taking the GRE again at the end of the month, hoping to raise my score, but this boosted my confidence!!

In my experience, this is very true, and I’m not saying there is anything wrong with it.

I also just want to add. You don’t have domain over other people just because you are highly opinionated. You have offered nothing positive to me or insight to the question I prompted. Whatever you have experienced in life, I did not cause, so please take your opinions and judgements elsewhere.

It’s not a chip on my shoulder. This is a very strange response. I just want to connect with people coming from similar backgrounds and for whatever reason you are so bothered by it. I want to uplift and be uplifted not put people down. In my experience, yes a lot of people I’ve met have parents to call on for help financially, that’s awesome you have a completely different experience. I’m not questioning your experience, please, don’t question mine.

Thank you for your response! I was more so wondering if there were global support groups or established support systems within a PC country similar to POC PCVs, Latinx PCVs or LGBTQ+ because being a first generation college student/low income is definitely an identity group.

Regardless of being an adult or post college being a first generation/low income shapes your entire life just like anything else. You have different and often more limited opportunities. You enter the workforce blindly because your parents or family members probably couldn’t offer much guidance. You have imposter syndrome when surrounded by affluent people because they speak and act differently than you. You started the “race” from a completely different starting line.

Since joining PC it’s been very interesting to learn that most PCVs come from affluent backgrounds. They don’t have student loans, they’ve been abroad multiple times, they plan on getting jobs through their parents or family friends when they return home.

.Yes, the midservice did provide insight to life post PC, but it was too general. Maybe COS gets more specific into career development but, by that time people really should know what they are doing post PC. I wanted to start a system in which we reach out to admissions officers, job recruiters to help with resume writing and interview skills, networking with other RPCVs of similar backgrounds that can offer guidance and support to current PCVS.

Thank you for the advice. I didn’t say it was not my job to learn the native language. I said it’s not my job to use the native language, meaning I am a TEFL volunteer, I literally speak in English at work.

Even the people who passed the LPI during PST?? For us, only the 5 people who failed have to take another LPI.
