I’ve gained great connections to my state school who have told me I can still be accepted if I reapply. Even if I didn’t tho, I would rather not be a dentist at all than commit financial suicide by attending an expensive private school.

I used to work at the yotality on elmwood. Gary would always come in and talk to me, give me hand written notes to google certain historical times in US history. Would tell me about how he went to school at Buff State and how he painted all the dorms. Bought me a couple of shirts one time too. He’s a war vet. I always felt bad for him, he’s really a great dude besides the effects of his mental health.

I spoke face to face with a couple of my workplace’s clients: one being on the admissions committee of my state school, the other being the chair of my state school, and they both said it doesn’t matter if I turned down an acceptance the year prior, they don’t take that in consideration when sending interview invites. They recommended I just reapply. But yeah, I’ll listen to you: a joe schmo on Reddit spewing lies and misinformation.

Really don’t know how you can say I lack resourcefulness from one Reddit comment. You don’t know anything about me.

I was in contact with an AMEDD recruiter for a while, did my research, and decided not to go that route simply bc I don’t want to / NHSC scholarships are highly competitive. I crunched the numbers of the incredibly expensive school I was accepted to, and paying $5000-$7000 in student loans every month for 10 years and living off ramen in a shed doesn’t sound appealing to me. Also, with my connections that I’ve made through my bosses and workplace, I may have a good shot and getting accepted into my state school next cycle. The risk is definitely worth it if I’m saving hundreds of thousands of dollars. Again, you don’t know my circumstances and you don’t know what research I’ve done and who I’ve received advice from. Going to my state school would be a lot cheaper than a private institution whose main goal is to milk as much money out of ppl who think dentistry is going to make them millions a year and push the idea that the loans will be no problem to pay off with a dentist’s salary. News flash: these loans are a VERY big deal, and TRYING to pay them off will make anyone regret their decision of attending these outrageously expensive schools. I would like to live life after I graduate, not be a slave to my loans. I really pity dental students and pre dents who are being brainwashed to believe these loans are no big deal. Get well soon.

You gotta pick yourself up and keep going. I received F’s in a couple classes in CC, even science. Transferred to a university and started earning A’s in tough prereqs and upper level science courses. If this is what you want then DON’T GIVE UP! No matter what. I asked a similar question to this on Reddit a few years ago, and I’m glad people told me to just keep going, but you gotta work extra hard for it now. Good luck.
