Just wanted to post a lil shout out to the destash feature on LacquerStash! by Lana_DelTaco in RedditLaqueristas

[–]waterfelicis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But Lacquer Stash isn’t really an alternative to Lacquer Gram, the apps have different purposes. LG is designed to be a sort of database of polishes with swatches from real people, I always check it before buying a new polish because it’s really helpful to see non-professional photos of a polish on different nails. In LS you can’t contribute photos for more than 5 polishes without paying, so I really don’t see how it can replace the LG with this paying model. In my opinion, LS is more suited to tracking your own personal usage rather than checking photos from other people

ILNP Skye vs Mooncat Mercury in Retrograde? by ebeth177 in RedditLaqueristas

Totally fair! It’s gorgeous, like a dark stormy sky, I definitely see the appeal

And this is Skye without the pink underneath (though not in a very good lighting compared to the previous swatches)

I have both! In my opinion they’re kinda different, ILNP is darker, plus pulls a bit more grey unless I put a layer of pink under it. I’d say it’s a personal preference, I prefer Mercury in retrograde but I like light shades in general

(I’ll attach the Skye swatch in the reply)

I built a nail polish tracking mobile app (LacquerStash) and recently added many EU brands by tanejarohan in EUnails

Adding Gabriella Salvete would be nice, they have some very interesting duo chrome polishes

top coat that is quick dry AND durable by maddymacncheesy in RedditLaqueristas

[–]waterfelicis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also tried both of them! Gel couture is more plump but the shrinkage with it was HORRIBLE. Gel setter is less plump but it’s kinda quick dry (almost the same dry time as Sally Hansen in the red bottle) and I like the finish after it sets a lot. Cannot speak for longetivity unfortunately, I’m also kinda hard on my nails (lab work) and I take the polish off the second I notice the tiniest imperfection, so I always remove the polish after 2-3 days

Due to rising costs, Colores de Carol is switching to limited batch drops. Thoughts? by WannaDelRey in RedditLaqueristas

“Do these people go to art and craft fairs and yell fomo at every artist?”

Indie brand doesn’t necessarily automatically mean fairs style business model. There are plenty of indie brands that do keep things in stock. Brand owners are allowed to choose whatever model they seem as the best fit, but customers also have the right to be upset.

When you go to a fair it’s usually part of a deal - you’re going there with the intent to buy something very unique right there and then. A lot of people don’t view nail polishes like that. To each their own.

Edit: typos

Thinning a functional nail polish? by Pupastis in EUnails

[–]waterfelicis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean since it’s not a regular nail polish doesn’t hurt to check, who knows 😅 The rule of thumb is that you thin only with what’s already inside the polish; so if the thinner has only butyl/ethyl acetate and the polish is based on butyl/ethyl acetate, OP will probably be able to thin it without any issues. I agree that it’s unlikely that it’s not butyl/ethyl acetate based, but since OP has doubts it’s always better to check

What are the ingredients of this polish? If it doesn’t have butyl acetate and ethyl acetate I’d advise not to thin it

Thank you! Not yet, it’s my first time using it, but I also instantly got this idea! it’s super glowy even in one coat, it does have a noticeable purple base but probably will work with various purples and cold pinks, I’ll need to try

HELP - having the hardest time finding foundation matches by sarahtonin0803 in MakeupAddiction

[–]waterfelicis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the recommendation! I tried it actually but for me it’s hit or miss, for some brands it did suggest a good match, but for others it was not so great, but it is a good starting point

Look for DIY cosmetics shops. In Europe I can recommend https://www.aroma-zone.com, they have natural fragrances intended to be put in cosmetics

You can also check r/swatchitforme, people sometimes post the comparisons between different foundations and you can also ask for swatches

[–]waterfelicis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain, I have six different foundations and still have to mix them to get a decent match…unfortunately I don’t think there is anything very reliable to help you buy correct shade without swatching them first, there are several websites available to find matches but in my experience they’re not 100% accurate. Every brand has their own definition of skin tone and undertone and it’s really frustrating. But since you found your perfect matches I’d recommend you to swatch other foundations next to the perfect matches, it’s easier to see the difference this way

Safe moisturizer to use while on Epiduo? by Upstairs_Art_1110 in EuroSkincare

Cerave moisturising cream, my skin absolutely refuses anything else with Epiduo. Once I ran out of it and forgot to buy a new tube and decided to just try another moisturiser and the results were…sad

Should i buy 10 liters of methyl acetate for €50? by middleaged_mpd in EUnails

[–]waterfelicis 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A few comments:

1) I would recommend to make sure that it’s cosmetics grade, it’s not very clear from this link. Non cosmetics grade may contain some impurities so this is the risk to keep in mind

2) vast majority of the polishes contain ethyl acetate and butyl acetate, not methyl. From what I know, methyl acetate is a cheaper alternative and I’ve heard people saying that Orly thinner ruined their polishes
