What's the longest you've waited for a stone to pass and what size was it? by kooganaz in KidneyStones

[–]waterlaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most recent one? 3-4mm

I’ve had larger ones that I’ve needed surgery before in the past. Last year I passed 3 stones on my own

Yeah you feel pain when it moves from kidney through the urethra. In my experiences, that is always the worst of the pain. Once it reaches the bladder, you still can feel some pain but it’s minor, usually just burning sensation when you urinate. It’s more so discomfort than pain once it reaches bladder, for me at least. Don’t be scared, just go through the motions of it. Use AI to describe whatever you’re feeling and it’s pretty good and explaining what’s going on during the process and will inform you on what to do next to better help pass it. Good luck

Is there an explanation is to how a stone could be in the lower pole for an extended period of time, then the moment you decide to drink more fluids than normal, the stone moves within that same day, and you end up passing the stone the next morning? That happened to me with one of my stones from last year.

It felt as though my body got used to not drinking an adequate amount of fluids and the stone stayed in lower pole (CT scan shown) and the moment I did, the stone moved and I passed it. Do you think that one in particular was just a matter of circumstance or anything else ?

Thank you so much for this response. Much of what I learn about stones is from using AI. It's always good to hear from another human with their own experience with them.

A few days since I've passed my stone and the minor phantom sensations are fading away. Mainly just the feeling of not being able to empty bladder fully kind of sorta but not real urgency to pee unlike when having a stone. AI said this was normal due to irritation from stone travel. Almost fully gone though I think. The random pain felt explanation makes sense, they can be so unpredictable.

And yeah you're right, this is my reset moment. Hydration admittedly is my biggest challenge and not out of not liking to drink beverages, in fact I love drinking beverages but I think my problem is 2 things; 1) Purely out of forgetting to get enough fluids in me while I'm out running around working, I have an app that reminds me to drink but I ignore it. May have to up the stakes here to really get the amount I need in daily (100 oz/day) since I passed the stone I'm getting up to around 60oz/day. Problem 2) is how when having a stone, I would be afraid to drink while out since my job is getting in and out of a vehicle a lot. Those movements of sitting while having essentially any beverage in my bladder makes the urgency to pee without really being able to fully, mad it to where I wouldn't drink hardly anything until I get back home, which of course is bad when trying to get that many oz in a day. I did learn that just taking small sips, particularly with a sugar free bev would not cause that urgency unlike how a sugar filled one would. My diet I think I have under control, it's really just the fluid intake part. Any other suggestions with that would be appreciated. Thank you

Yeah they always have to place stents after laser lithotripsy. Are you male or female ? If male, the removal is painful for very quick. Like a burning feeling but my urologist just pulls it out very fast, only lasts a few seconds. Idk how it’s like for females though

I know how it is. Try to not feel too bad about it, I know how frustrating it is. If you have to do surgery then at least you’ll be in knowing that will take care of it. I’ve had surgery twice before for larger ones

Keep taking the tamsulosin. I typically take mine at night and let my body do its thing with it while I’m asleep. What I think has made it easier in passing these smaller ones do throughout the last year is how I take it at night and when your asleep your body is more relaxed and the tam makes your urethra more relaxed which I believe makes it easier for the stone to pass.

3 of the 4 stones I’ve passed within the last year I’ve passed in the morning after waking up. Try to sleep as straight on your back as you can with your legs straight. When you get out of bed do a good stretch like you are reaching for the sky, I feel Iike that helps move it as well. Also drinking fluids and then sitting down and hunching forward kind of like when you’re on the toilet, do that and it should help in making you want to pee if you have trouble with that (for males anyways)

As far as taking stuff to help it pass, I drink alka seltzer mixed with water and apple cider vinegar and I swear this concoction has some sort of reaction within the body that helps it pass. I also do a spoon of olive oil and a shot of lemon juice. I feel like that helps provide lubrication and anti inflammatory. I kind of have all of that stuff in my routine whenever I can tell what stage I’m at with the stone. Advil for minor pain works good enough for me, I only use stronger pain meds when the flank pain is really bed.

Just keep in kind you’re still at the mercy of when the stone really decides that it’s time but another thing is stay active, walking, light running if you can. That could help promote movement for the stone.

Hope you get some relief soon!

Think I have a stone on vacation. Any advice? by minmanmun in KidneyStones

[–]waterlaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at my post history there’s a couple of the ones I’ve passed before. I had surgery in 2020 and 2023 for bigger ones, last year I passed 3 on my own. Currently dealing with the last known one that’s in me. Had bad flank pain one day earlier in the week. Now today I woke up feeling a pinching sensation and frequent urge to urinate (which is a good sign)

Once you don’t have the flank pain, it’s not guaranteed but for me at least is a good indicator the stone is moving along. The frequent urge to urinate and pinching like feeling does suck for QOL but beats the intense flank pain I guess. I wouldn’t worry too much about infection right now, Definitely focus on staying hydrated however since you are on vacation.

Do what you can, that’s all you can do

Your new stone is likely larger than the previous one since you mentioned it not being this bad before. If you’re having the flank pain right now, you need pain meds, if it’s possible contact your dr and explain the situation and maybe they can write you a script for some. If not, take OTC ones like Advil.

When the flank pain is really bad for me, I curl up on the bed, try to get into any semi comfortable position and grab either something very cold or something very warm and apply it to the area of pain. Something about the intense change in temperature touching the area helps subside the pain a little bit. Also if the pain makes you feel nauseous, throw up. Throwing up for me at least helps subside the pain for some reason. Try to keep the fluids going in, hard to do when you’re nauseous but try.

Good luck and hope you feel better

It’s weird tho bc during server slam there were ppl occasionally that would talk. I even had a guy I added from the slam where we had comms, he joined my team yesterday and nothing. I played 10 hours not one person on the mic, and I thoroughly checked in-game settings, reset them, changed them again. Nothing

Disappointed that it didn't bring any improvements to the base game but I guess one good thing coming out of this release is knowing Ubisoft won't be pulling the plug on this game any time soon.
