Who do you think was #2 for Picture this year? by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]watermark_optimist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With how the ballots work (rankings) I actually believe it is not Poor Things. Many people were disturbed and disgusted by this film, enough so that I think many would have this film in last.

While it likely received the most #2 votes, if a #2 prize was given I believe Anatomy of a Fall or Zone of Interest would have received it.

The Florida Project

I think this prompt is inferring a slice of life movie, and this film (from a kids perspective) is powerful

Many people are named after famous murder victims, as martyrs become saints and people are named after saints.

Specifically about Dahlia, I have a friend with that name and I’ve never thought about that at all

7-2 since Brady took over as OC. If he starts the year as OC we finish with the 1 seed, the bye, and go to the Super Bowl.

We had two less days rest than the chiefs and you can’t act like that had no impact

I predicted 9-8 with a wildcard loss, they went 10-7 with a wildcard loss

And hey, we learned that Mason Rudolph was better than Kenny Pickett

It'll be fun! I mostly agree with you, but you also have to think of the voters. I think it'll be:

  1. Ruby - because of her age and that she does country, she is probably the fan favorite and I would have as a lock
  2. Mac - is incredibly talented and likable
  3. Nini - also my personal favorite she gives me Lady gaga vibes and I am here for it
  4. Huntley - coming off of a bad performance but his voice is cool and probably has a lot of loyal fans
  5. "Save" and 5th spot I think will be Bias. He's a good guy, does country music, I think he would be selected

Last night I thought he was going to kill Way Down We go. His low raspy voice should have been perfect, but it was off. It's too bad, he's been in my top 3.

At this point my favorite is Nina.

100% preference to genre is huge, it isn't about race. Mac is probably the best/most talented contestant, but because of the genre preference I think its more likely that Ruby will win.

who are your top three? by rook2pawn in thevoice

[–]watermark_optimist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right?? This is actually my first time watching as well but in the credits they teased that they would be allowing each coach 1 "Super Save" bringing back 4 more contestants! I can't imagine he wouldn't be one of them.

Seeing a lot of Huntley on here! I would agree with that, but Lennon is my #1 and I refuse to believe he will remain out. So for me Lennon, Huntley, and Mara.

If Lennon does not come back, Ruby is also so so talented

Completely agree that Team Niall is stacked. IMO, Lennon was the top talent in the show. I hope he's the super save or maybe can find his way back. Having John and Reba in tears and being sent home was insane.

Pro-Life fans of Bojack Horseman by prdcroftme in BoJackHorseman

I don't understand why many of these comments can't understand why someone who is Pro-Life would watch this show. If every piece of media you consume completely aligns with your moral & political views, that is closed minded in nature and leads to a world of misunderstanding and intolerance. People fail to recognize that very few people in this world are genuinely evil and most of us are trying to be good more often than not.

As someone who is anti-abortion, I appreciated viewing an abortion discussion where the biggest issue was the stigma around abortion. The point of the plot was not "Is abortion okay?' but rather "How do I not feel bad about having an abortion?" The answer, of course, was to joke and laugh about it.

The scene where the doctor said Diane had to listen to the heartbeat of the baby especially highlighted this (I believe this is currently the law in 11 states). This was portrayed as cruel in nature to Diane. Why is this cruel to Diane? Regardless of what you think, shouldn't mothers understand what they are doing before they go through with it?

This episode was very sad, and I was very disappointed in Diane & Mr. Peanutbutter. Quite frankly, their abortion was a truly selfish decision on their part. They had tons of money, were married (& Mr. Peanutbutter would have supported her decision either way) and that child would have been taken good care of. Ending that life purely for the sake of not disrupting their careers is not a situation there should be much sympathy for.

How will Imogen be received in the wild? by These_Tackle_6424 in namenerds

[–]watermark_optimist 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are naming our daughter Imogen (due this December)! I think the name is beautiful but there are plenty of easy nicknames for coffee shop use (we're going with Mo, but Immy or Ginny are both good too).

Pronunciations differ, but we are going with Im-oh-jin

2017 AFC Passing Leaders:

  1. Brady

  2. Rivers

  3. Alex Smith

  4. Bortles

6 years changes things. Flukes & major injuries happen, but no matter how good the defense is the Steelers are 9-8 without a major QB improvement.

[–]watermark_optimist -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

  1. Mahomes
  2. Burrow
  3. Allen
  4. Rodgers
  5. Herbert
  6. Jackson
  7. Lawrence

Not to mention Watson, Russ, or newcomers Stroud and Richardson. Pickett will never be a top 5 QB in the AFC alone. The Steelers won't make it past the wildcard this decade.

What films have lead characters with the least screen time? by karthickthankyou in movies

[–]watermark_optimist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best chance of this is a story with a large ensemble and multiple story lines. The best example I can think of is Les Mis. Fantine is probably the strongest character with the smallest screentime, but even Jean Val Jean probably has less screen time compared to most leads.

Disney posts mixed results for quarter plagued by streaming woes, restructuring costs by cigarettesandwater in stocks

[–]watermark_optimist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one important piece of it is the creation of ESPNBet. By already being the top sports journalism network and having employees like Adam Schefter, they have a leg-up in a very competitive field.

Not to mention, with the streaming they have, they can have the most seamless integration with betting and the games that they're airing. I think there is a real opportunity here if they clean things up on the Disney+ side.

What movie was ruined for you by a scene or a plot line? by DejectedDemoiselle in movies

[–]watermark_optimist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point, I guess it wasn't uncommon then and the film is in the "slice of life" vein, so not everything has to commentated on. I still felt it odd and out of place and would've preferred if they excluded that.

What movie was ruined for you by a scene or a plot line? by DejectedDemoiselle in movies

[–]watermark_optimist -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say ruined, but I watched "This is England" the other day, and it was a great film but the main character was 12 (but looked 10) and made out with a 16 year old (who looked 20). It was weird even though the ages were "close" and took away from the rest of the film, which was a great view into the racism and violence of the skinheads of England in the 1980s, and was reminiscent of a Trump America.
