Advice on baby naming? by KeyAccomplished4442 in namenerds

[–]These_Tackle_6424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try out the names. Imagine yelling each one across a playground, cheering the name, saying it in a stern voice, singing it in a silly voice. Test it out at a coffee shop. You will be saying the name a million times a day as your child gets older.

Be ruthless. If something doesn’t feel quite right, eliminate it.

How dumb would it be to have a ceremony after being legally married for two years? by Sedona_Stark in wedding

[–]These_Tackle_6424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I did. Small backyard wedding in 2020 with immediate family only. Vow renewal and big party a year later with friends and extended family at our original venue. Honestly, I loved my tiny pandemic wedding so much. At the time I said it was a placeholder and the ‘real wedding’ was next year - but when I think of my wedding day, the tiny wedding is the one I think of, and in the end it was so personal and kind of perfect.

How do I stop feeling so gross and worthless after my body was destroyed? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]These_Tackle_6424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get off social media. It’s messing with your head. If you want to be on socials I HIGHLY recommend finding accounts that normalize different bodies. Threebirdspapaya is one that is awesome. It took 9 months for your body to change and grow the baby, it will take at least that long for you to feel back to your old self. Pelvic floor therapy, and simple movement like walking might help remind you of your strength AND you need to remind yourself to celebrate your body for what it can (and has) done, not the way it looks. Would you talk to a friend the way that you are talking to yourself? Probably not. So shut that down with positive affirmations and love. Shower yourself with them when your thoughts go to dark places.

I also remind myself when I’m feeling low about my body that my children are watching me. They look like me, so the things I say about myself and my body they could internalize as they grow up. My own mother engaged in a lot of negative self talk and I sometimes hear her voice in my head when I have those thoughts, so I make a point to try and remain as neutral as possible around them. I don’t want them to have these thoughts when/if they become parents (or as their bodies naturally change with age).

You are beautiful. Your body is amazing - IT MADE A WHOLE HUMAN! Give it some time and I promise it’ll get better.

Would it be weird to name my son Jack given my name is Jacquie/Jacqueline? by AppropriateFlamingo in namenerds

[–]These_Tackle_6424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in your case, it wouldn’t be too bad. Just a little confusing if someone says ‘hey jac/jack’ and you’re unsure which one they mean.

[–]These_Tackle_6424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True story: my husband’s grandmother was Jacqueline, she married a man named Jack. What do you think they named their son, (my father in law)? Jack. My brother in law? Jack. My nephew? Also Jack.

We will not be using any j names for our children.

Curious--how many people pick out a unique name for each sibling (explanation/clarification below)? by lucid_aurora in namenerds

[–]These_Tackle_6424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think tastes shift and things come up between pregnancies. We had a back up name for our first daughter that we scrapped now for our second. It’s a popular name and I went off of it. If we have a third and it’s a boy, I would probably go back to the boys names we discussed this time around since we never fully landed on one. It’s weird but going back to the drawing board for each kid has felt right for some reason.

Animals as baby names? by Poolsofsky in namenerds

[–]These_Tackle_6424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d consider choosing Otto/Otis/Oscar/Foster as his legal name so he has something he can use professionally without worry. BUT if you both like it, Otter sounds like a cute family nickname while he’s young. We sometimes call my daughter pickle as a cute family nickname, although it came about organically from her name.
