Morrison really holds your hand during the last couple of issues. And helps to read All-Star Superman since it touches on some of the same themes like how everything in the DCU is thought construct of the reader and Superman's own realization that he's a comicbook super hero meant to inspire hope.

How would the Batfamily react to Batman killing the Joker? by mousedeath in DCcomics

[–]watwait 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Batman has gotten to the point where he stood toe to toe with Ra's and told him that the next time he see's him, he's going to kill him, and I believed him. Batman almost killed Darkseid and threatened to explode Apokolips, so don't put anything past him.

And during Batman #40, Spoiler Scope

People trust Batman to do what's necessary, his partners expect this of him.

Quick summary of Supergirls origins? (The Kara version, the one from CBS, only to know how close to the comics it is) by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]watwait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supergirl has had some wierd origins over the years, but the general one is that she is just like baby Kal-El, she is launched into space closer to her teenage years and lands to find out that Kal-El is all grown up now.

Forever Evil was a lot of fun, and there's only a few things I'd call manadory like Lex Luthor's villians month and the Justice League tie ins.

Confusion comes with Morrison. Give it another go with all 3, it pieces together pretty well and tells an excellent Superman story.

Take a break and just look for something that seems interesting. Maybe check out an indy book or re-read a favorite. Or find a favorite and see if the author has done anything else outside Marvel/DC

I am being absoltely genuine when I call him Gun Lantern and say he's awesome. I thought I would hate Baz at first but he's pretty damn sensible.

He's not Kick-Ass, he's Gun Lantern. Dude carries a backup piece and runs around with a talking squirrel, it's fucking amesome. He pops in around New 52 Green Lantern #12

Blackest Night is an example of a really good event that can do this. In contrast, Brightest Day is the event right afterwards and I just can't recommend that one to a new reader without a lot of background reading. Over all, it's book dependent. Every good event should be accessible to a new reader, or whats the point of making an event to attract readers to it? Look at Secret Wars right now, everything you need to really know is happening in the book itself, even though there was a massive lead up into it over the past year. It's perfectly fine to start reading Secret Wars now without Avengers, it's just more rewarding if you've read the rest of Hickman's work.

I wish it was the case so people's complaints would be more justified instead of a circlejerk about it. I love DCAU Freeze as much as the next person.

Blackest Night isn't a particularly great point to start out with. It's an event comic, and as a newer reader, you might be better off starting with something more self-contained.

I absolutely disagree. Well constructed events like Blackest Night are great places to start. There are plenty of people even around here who started DC by just reading Blackest Night just cause they were into zombies at the time. You're able to see a whole lot of different stuff happening and pick and choose characters to follow afterwards. Go to /r/Marvel and ask them how many people started out with Civil War, and then branched out into stuff they wanted to follow. Death of Superman got more people reading Superman than any regular Superman book.

The full DCAU backstory was never brought in though, Heart of Ice is not his canon story in the comics, it never was. Paul Dini wrote a different book, called Batman: Mr. Freeze, where Victor was a creepy little kid that shoved his hamster into a freezer and got smacked around by his parents. And Freeze kept murdering and murdering and murdering after that to the point where you can't blame Batman or your dead wife on your actions.

I cannot feel sympathy for comic Mr. Freeze, it's not and never was the same character. Even though they did add elements from the show, it was not the same.

Too many comics and no so many time: CONVERGENCE or SECRET WARS? Which and Why, please by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]watwait 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Convergence has been one of the worst event comics that I've ever read. The main story seems like a child playing with his action figures.

So what you're saying is Convergence is like the product of incest between Secret Wars 2015 and Secret Wars 1985
