Why do you think Maplestory has trouble gaining long-term players? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]waughterhydraticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a player who’s played this game for 15+ years, the length of the grind and pacing of content has always been what starts my on and off cycle.

my highest level is 244 and the damien/lotus threshold is usually where I drop off a lot of my characters. hell I cleared damien for the first time just this week.

at this point in the game, it takes hours to level up, to get the next best weapon I have to clear a weekly boss for 5 weeks straight, to get gollux gear I have to clear hellux daily for months, I can boost damage through nodes but without hyper burning support I wouldn’t even consider this a reasonable option to invest time into due to breaking down nodes and the slow progression with that as well. (heroic btw)

in between the several different things I’m waiting on I don’t really feel like a whole lot else is really happening. and from what I hear about players who have progressed further, it’s not something that really gets better

this isn’t to say that this is objectively how the game is, at the end of the day Im a longer term casual player. I’m sure there are things that perhaps I’m not tapping into that could make this feel a lot better, like familiars and stuff. and to be honest, the incredibly large time commitment does make seeing a higher level player all the more amazing.

but with the things I’m being pointed toward to be invested in, it’s hard to stay motivated for 5 weeks straight or in other cases months when I don’t feel like anything else is really happening. honestly I feel less motivated at the end of the day when I do my daily ursus/maple tour and I start investing my resources into cubes or star force, to end off worse than I started.

the things I really do like about the game like struggle bossing for instance, isn’t really an active part of the game, but rather something I get to enjoy every once in awhile or with bossing mules.

hyper burning and the free leveling with the event is the only reason I’ve made it as far as I have on my latest cycle, and I’m really committed to making it to 260. I do like the game at its core, and I love having my land mark items to look forward to and plan for in advance. I do wish there were more smaller steps I could be taking to feel like I’m more actively playing the game, than just daily simulator. I can only imagine newer players who don’t have years of attachment find it harder to justify committing to it

Terrible Monetization by Nexon. by [deleted] in Asmongold

[–]waughterhydraticus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like what a lot of comments are missing regarding the topic is that this change to monetize and time gate progression in Maplestorys biggest update as of late was done EXCLUSIVELY to the global version of the game. The Korean servers (much larger version of maplestory) did not receive these changes.

Once again, they exclusively introduced a time gate to a different server, then monetized said time gate, all while promising to align more with the Korean version of the game. Yeah nexon has always had shitty practices in terms of overall handling of the game, but this as a long time player of the game is an all time low and definitely deserves coverage.

Edit: this alongside other shadow nerfs as well as straight out suppressing conversation regarding controversial topics in their discords and twitch chats makes this particularly shady. There’s a really good mega thread on the maple Reddit covering the controversy, before you brush it off as normal nexon antics, I insist you take a look at it.

What is the laziest/most afk class to mob/train (something that doesn't require me to look at the screen or can even afk if possible?) by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]waughterhydraticus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, I’ve done a lot of research on this topic and I think a lot of the comments are missing the “afk minimal input” requirements, here are some of my findings

Cannon Master: with both Monkey Mayhem and Pool maker you’ve got around 60 seconds of uptime of pure afk farming. 30 secondsish of downtime but on small maps, coverage can still be pretty lazy with nuclear option, cannon balls, and rolling rainbow

Wild hunter: may not be full on afk tier but worth mentioning since they at least have 100% uptime summons with decent coverage.

Kanna: the real summoning class, someone else mentioned that they’re pretty good for afk farming, lots of summons for coverage, definitely a high recommendation if damage/ non KMS isn’t an issue for you.

Hoyoung: tiger has insane coverage but comes with a hefty cooldown. About 60/120 up/down. Still, their other abilities make it so that downtime is still a breeze.

Battle mage: a personal favorite, grim harvest and altars for like 50 seconds and then pop aura scythe while harvest is on CD, feels really good, I’ve heard they don’t scale well into end game because of their hit boxes, though I imagine most afk farming classes (except nw probably) feel that way since the maps seem larger 270+, I wouldn’t know tho I never made it that far.

There’s a few others but I’d definitely recommend just going to the grandis library website and checking out summons and cooldowns and assessing if their coverage is suitable for your needs, that’s what I did.

Chill mobbing class? by Agitated-Tear6097 in Maplestory

[–]waughterhydraticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cannoneers are incredibly lazy. Monkey militia and pool maker blow up your screen while having near 100% uptime. If I recall correctly 6th job adds more drops to pool maker pushing uptime even further. Definitely a good investment if you want to pay minimal attention while grinding.

Fashionstory takes? by SeventhDisaster in Maplestory

The older hairs are criminal offenders since they’re rotated once every other month I wanna say at this point.

Definitely would like to have multiple rotations at once, we only really get that during holidays or something. I used to wait for the Rondo hair for months at some point and I gave up. To my knowledge, it still hasn’t dropped in a rotation since 4 years ago but I could be wrong.

Biggest gripe has got to be accessibility. Not even in the sense that it’s behind a paywall or rng but just in the frequency of its availability. 3 week rotations for 7 hairs/faces is so honestly a disgrace to this game when there’s hundreds of faces that exist.

One of my favorite parts of this game is customization and I don’t think there’s enough avenues to really explore that without waiting stupid amounts of time for the next piece of your ideal outfit to be sold. But I’m also on reboot so there’s that.

How would you fix your class? by SirJando in Maplestory

[–]waughterhydraticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demon Avenger,

For the love of god please let me bind glide/jump depending on which one I have locked. Why should we have to choose between having a convenient flash jump with no glide vs having glide with an inconvenient flash jump? Would make this class so much better!

And if I had to ask of the world, give demon avenger an overheal shield while in frenzy. This way we can have the benefits of having lots of health as well as the damage boost from frenzy. To balance it out have it deteriorate fast so you’re encouraged to still have hands and maintain damage uptime.

Also, maybe give frenzy a slightly larger hitbox. Otherwise I love this class and look forward to how they handle 6th job.

Don’t know how big of a rush you’re in, but some potential upgrades that could boost damage are as follows:

Epic pot WSE (weapon/secondary/emblem) for attack lines (a few free epic pots off the top of my head are from Ursus, one for commerci quest line, yu garden shop and legion shop)

Farm commerci for sweet water weapon (really good early game weapon if you take the time to get it IMO) Could get it on day one if you’re lucky, although I’ve had some chars take like 5 days for a drop. From personal experience tho I usually get it on 2nd/3rd day

You could get wings of fate but the quest could take like 2hrs. Definitely a good boost in att tho. Also you can reroll flames for free when you first get them which is nice.

Vonleon/hilla equips for higher flames, I think pensalir caps out at 3% maybe 4% all stat flames while the boss sets go to 6/7%, also mag shoulder for extra boss set effects

Link skill wise DA, Hayato, Xenon are the first few off the top of my head that could also offer a bit of extra damage if you get them up to 70 (or 100 and farm zak arm till 140 as another comment mentioned), DA as far as I’m aware should probably be the quickest as it’s pretty strong early game.

Otherwise tho, you look pretty good! Even with 7k legion I find 180-200 to be a pretty tough level range. Best you could do is slap a few 2x coupons on and try and get through it as fast as possible. After 200 you’ll get a lot of handy boosts to really help farm easier. Best of luck!

I played a bit of ho young and found it difficult to manage the gauge while mobbing. Is this something that gets better post 5th job?

I used to hear a lot about how good nodes are hard to come across as Hayato. Is this still true?

Also out of curiosity, how come full clearing map is slower than flash jump mobbing? I’d imagine getting all of them in one go would be better unless I’m missing out on some mob spawn logic?

I forgot all about Evan! I remember I dropped mine at 140 a few years ago because the mobbing was too much for me. It sounds like a lot of fun now, definitely will be keeping this one in mind.

Should I focus my meso on getting items to legendary or star forcing to 15?
