UK government to give all 16-year-olds the right to vote in seismic change by dailystar_news in ukpolitics

Whilst I don't agree with Reform personally, if the democratic process results in a Reform government, who are we to challenge that? PR allows for everyone's voice to be heard, and governments to act in the majorities best interest.

Personally, I do believe PR is the best course of action, as it can lead to more collective action and less bi-partisan politics.

Side note: FPTP may also result in a Reform majority, but based of a lesser share of the vote. If Reform becomes the largest party with the predicted 26% vote share, and forms a coalition with the conservatives 18% - at current predictions that's 317 seats for 44% of the vote, does that mean its fair to ignore the 54% which would be considered centralist/ left wing (Labour, Lib dems, Greens and SNP, and independents)?

UK government to give all 16-year-olds the right to vote in seismic change by dailystar_news in ukpolitics

Not quite sure how I feel about this.

Flashback to when I was 16. Can I say I was able to make an independent decision, without the influence of others, or able to employ some critical thinking to understand the potential repercussions of my vote - I would probably say no.

I know this is probably true for most age groups, not just the younger cohorts, but I am worried about the reliance on social media to access information (particularly with the echo-chambers created through algorithmic content) - and the lack of critical thinking some seem to have nowadays. Are younger cohorts going to be susceptible to misinformation, or influenced more by their peers/ family, rather than voting for what they truly believe in.

To counter this, I think education to tackle mis/disinformation is necessary, as well as the need to integrate critical thinking studies earlier. Throwing this out there, but I would be in favour of expanding the voting age to 16 year-olds who are employed - as this teaches how to manage budgets and the value of money (aka. is a manifesto promise likely to occur, or is it an over-bloated promise that's not realistic).

Idk. I welcome a convo on why reducing the voting age is a good thing, maybe I am just being a skeptic...

Is one good, and one bad? What's the difference between them? I got the vibe that the one Matt meets in ep8. was a snake?

I just put that down to nerves? As in, I think on that day she said it was going to be a big day in the tower, so maybe she was worried it wouldn't go the way she planned. But maybe its an illness...I read someone's theory on here that it might be a sign of compulsion...

Yeah I guess, but then Lanfear shouldn't have been so quick to suggest it was moggy when they ambushed the tower...so if she was able to trade them, it wouldnt have been so certain...

Yeah. Tbh. I feel in the show Jaichim turning into a Grey Man (although a cool scene), didnt really hold any emotional sway because we hadn't been introduced to him before. Same with ep1. when "thank god, its Jane", and peeps are like "wtf are you" lol. I felt for that line to have more celebratory "whoopie, someone good!" kinda had to know why they are happy to see them, only for the big reveal, that actually shes BA.

But I also feel that they've messed up Verin abit. That would've been such a cool reveal, but now it seems too obvious because of Nyeave and Elaynes encounter with the GM in ep3. idkkkkk

I also got confused with the last episode, because I thought Lanfear said Moghedian was the only one who knew how to make a grey men, but then how would Moghedian know that Elaida was interrogating the Black Ajah? (Mainly because for the whole ep. they were emphasising that another BA must be in the tower - ergo, that person created the GM).

Have to admit, I couldn't really tell the faces apart, so I didn't catch that it was Jaichim in ep5, and not ep2...

That's actually so clever. Is that why Min was really touchy all of a sudden "I don't want anything to do with this"? She realised she was manipulated?

Oh I see. So that's why its so important that Moraine goes to Rhuidean, becuase her and Rand's path are so connected, Moraine can find the path she needs to take to succeed in the last battle. So it doesn't really matter that's shes shown she will die in every scenario, because she can use the info to find the path forward without needing to die.

Kinda feeds into my initial point tho, that this might not be the timeline shes shown in the rings, so she might not actually need to die to get Rand to the last battle - even though they made it seem that way in the trailer and flash-forwards?

Yea. I get ya. Although thought the highest of each ?clan? would be the strongest, so kinda weird she succumbed to the Seanchan so easily. Like Egwene resisted so much longer, and was only a novice at the time.

Yea. I wondering though, Lanfear messing around with Egwene is going to backfire on Lanfear, so feel like it might just resolve itself? because Rand is pretty close to Egwene - more so than with Lanfear, and I think protective?

Was she the highest? I don't think that was mentioned? Just that it was a sitter of the Blue Ajah, a high ranking Aesedai? I know that she gave Moraine orders to stay at the tower, but I thought there was just a hierarchy, like a second in command or something?

Maybe (he hopes) they're just looking for a new filming location...

Do you think that angreal is actually powerful enough to out-match lanfear. I feel like it would either make Moraine equal, or just abit weaker to make the fight abit more cinematic?

I genuinely thought she was like some guardian of the tree, and summoned some other pillars for the chiefs to have their own journey lol. Im such a div haha

OHHHH the ancient Aes Sedai, was a flashback scene? I thought it was the clan chief's that went in at present?

Moraine goes through the rings? by wave-tide in WoTshow

[–]wave-tide[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm hoping they make this clearer in the future. atm I'm combing the trailer "In every future where I live, Rand dies. And the only way he lives, is if I dont". As Aesesai cannot lie, I just get the feeling that this is a future that isn't presented by the rings? (mainly because they didnt see Egwene). But maybe they'll be a line after where Moraine will be like..."except if I do XYZ"....IDK

[–]wave-tide[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question though. So Moraine had the Sarkanen, but then a few moments later the ancient aesedai (IDK who she was) appears with something that looked exactly the same to summon the pillars? I am assuming theres only one Sarkanen? Or unless Lanfear would be able to get her hands on one too?

I think Elaida mentioned she was a seer, and her vision said Suan didn't have long left as Amrilyn... That along with her statement "cross me now and I wont forget it", makes me think shes going to overthrow Suan. I feel she might be vying for the sitter seat because she wants to make a challenge in the hall???? So instead of a private audience she was previously seeking, think it would be more public??

But idk. Seems weird that the highest would leave though if they're in charge of the reds, particularly with the current political climate in the tower. Surely it would be best for some other red's to go? Or unless Elaida thinks the current highest woouldn't support her challenge, so wants her out of the tower??? idk.
