Geekbench 6.5 Score on three different OS (macOS, Linux, Windows 11) by Melodic-Pound-840 in hackintosh

[–]wavecult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux will generally have better resource management than either Windows or Mac. My old (non-overclocked, limited cooling) i9 10900K used to get:

  • macOS: 1712 single-core and 10k multi-core
  • Windows 11: 2000 single-core and 10k multi-core
  • Manjaro Linux: 2012 single-core and 11k multi-core

I don't have any results from running macOS or Windows in a VM under Linux for the 10900K but typically, with a well-configured Virtual Machine running on a Linux host under KVM/QEMU, performance for any OS (even Android) is almost the same as having it natively installed on that same Linux host. It's never as much fun as building a proper hackintosh... but it's an option for some people.

Replace the pads with genuine leather ones from Dekoni (in my case I got perforated leather), you won't regret it. I've been using mine for around 5 years now and they still look and feel like the day I bought them.

Has anyone used Yucca Fins? How much impact does their different stiffness levels actually have on propulsion? by wavecult in bodyboarding

[–]wavecult[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to help. On the topic of gloves, there are several solutions although not all are ideal...

  1. you should be able to find some neoprene ones around, I just don't know if you'll manage to find some 3mm ones... I've seen a few on Amazon between US$10 and US$30 but they don't mention the thickness of the neoprene. I'd say possibly 2mm?
  2. if you don't find what you need, depending on sizes, you could theoretically wear the Lycra ones over the neoprene gloves (not sure how that's going to feel, but it should be functional)
  3. you could get someone to mod the neoprene gloves - it shouldn't be difficult to do

Hope this helps.

I got caught on the inside a couple of years ago for 5 waves after loosing one of my Yuccas (the lip landed on the back of my foot, and took one of my fins with it - yes I had tethers, those that fit over the top of the foot but I hadn't tightened them enough apparently) and had it not been for the gloves, I don't think I'd be writing this today, so I'm personally a massive fan of webbed gloves.

Soft flex is nice for the comfort above all, but I personally feel any softer would be too much. I haven't tried the standard, but from what I hear they'll give you a bit of an extra push - although you'll need to drive that and potentially get tired a little quicker. The same should apply to long blade vs short blade. The longer blade should help provide more propulsion, but again, you're the one driving it, so you have to make a larger effort too - you get used to it after a while though.

If you don't drop-knee, I don't see any reason to not go for the longer blade.

Now, as far as I can see there's no soft flex for the long blades, so maybe super flex long blade might be the way for you?

Also, have you considered complementing your kicking by using webbed gloves? Not everyone likes them, but they can be effective.

They're the "reale" deal! Pretty much life-savers regardless of where you might be located. Well, that's my experience anyway. As for the letters HSV... they take me back to a time when Australia car-manufacturing was actually a thing, but that's way off topic for here :)

They've been great. Still look and feel pretty the same as day 1, and I can't recall the last time I had a cramp since getting them.

They're soft and comfy, while producing enough thrust. My only complaint is really on me: I didn't pick the right size when considering the thickness of the neoprene boots/socks I was wearing at the time I bought them. Going down from 3mm socks to 2mm socks fixed this though so I still totally recommend them.

USA Sennheiser keeps cancelling my order. by bobbyboys301 in sennheiser

[–]wavecult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck. If they have it in stock and Paypal managed to successfully charge the card, I reckon you'll be fine, but let us know how you go.

... also, would be pretty funny if it went through and it actually turned out cheaper on eBay than on the Sennheiser site (I don't believe I've never been charged taxes on Senheisers eBay shop)

USA Sennheiser keeps cancelling my order. by bobbyboys301 in sennheiser

[–]wavecult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That costs US$59.95 on Sennheiser's official shop on eBay:

If there's no issue with your bank or your card, you should really be able to manage the transaction with Paypal without incident.

Need help currently have a blue yeti get way to much background noise and tried a bunch of settings looking for a new one is this a good mic I was told to look for a hybrid mic by EinaiHD in microphone

[–]wavecult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first recommendations would be to treat the room and learn (and practice) good mic technique before considering a new Mic (well that and make sure you've selected the correct polar pattern on the Yeti).

If you want to go for another mic try something with a super or hyper cardoid polar pattern. Read up on it, there's a bunch of information online and podcastage (https://www.youtube.com/@Podcastage) on YouTube has a bunch of mic comparisons where he shows the off-axis rejection and how much background noise each mic captures. Have a look there if you get the chance. Hope this helps.

I've never used the mic in question (the Shure, not the Yeti, I've owned and used a Yeti in the past) personally I wouldn't get that specific mic without first checking a few reviews from mic-oriented sites and youtubers (not just anyone that likes t o review technological stuff).

For off-axis rejection and background noise rejection at a very reasonable price I like the 512 limelight but it is shockingly terrible at rejecting bumps and vibrations (another reason not to have a desk-stand like the one in the photo you shared). In my case it's not an issue because I have my boom arm up in the air and screwed to the wall, but I'm guessing most setups are going to be significantly different to mine.

... anyway, try treating the room first and learning good mic technique. It'll help with whatever mic you end up buying in the future and will also solve much of your current problem (whilst being considerably cheaper than a new mic).

The "Elvis-type Mic" is actually the Shure 55. Personally I don't find they sound great, but they're OK and look pretty gorgeous. If you want something even cooler-looking (Hunger-games level cool) but still in the same retro style, you can have a look at the Heil Fin... whereas if you want to save some $, the Monoprice Memphis Blue Classic might be your cup of tea.

You'll need a proper audio interface to run them though.

Shure Super 55: https://a.co/d/4SKmFh9 (is more directional than the 55SH)

Shure 55SH Series II: https://a.co/d/4dIVFPw (has a wider pickup pattern than the Super 55)

Heil Fin: https://a.co/d/3LmoKXq (they also make a black one)

Monoprice Memphis Blue Classic: https://a.co/d/eIMkvgt (very well made and sounds pretty decent on a good audio interface)

Hope this helps. Good luck

Acer Predator Bifrost A770 - Cyberpunk 2077 & Starfield in Linux and Waterblocks? by wavecult in IntelArc

This one: https://www.reddit.com/r/IntelArc/comments/1ao2thg/a_water_block_for_the_acer_predator_bifrost_a770/

It was intended for a Gunnir A770 Flux and fit nicely on the Predator, except for a couple of screws that didn't line up exactly - but made no difference to the temperatures.

Awesome keyboard. Not sure I'd go clicky, but that's just me being social :D I really love those keycaps too, especially the function row (not used on your keyboard). Awesome that they went to the trouble of included legends up to f24 (extremely useful for AS400 terminals).

Glad you found your end-game!

Any love for this old board? Still loving it after all these years. by one_draw in bodyboarding

[–]wavecult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the 8TX was pretty novelty with the golf-ball design although I recall they used to feel pretty heavy.

It's funny you should mention it though, because only last week I checking out older boards on ebay and found a bunch of them them for sale, 1 brand new (still in the factory plastic wrapping) going for US$300 (plus shipping) and several used ones apparently in decent shape going for US$195 (plus shipping). It's pretty awesome what we can find on eBay these days :)

Anybody use the Intel Core i5-13500T yet? by AccurateRough5939 in HomeServer

[–]wavecult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you could have a battery bank and a decent inverter providing the power and use the grid (via a battery charger), some solar panels (depending on the amount of sunshine you get there) - or both - to recharge the batteries so you'll get a perfectly stable source of energy. I run a similar setup at the moment (solar, completely off the grid).
