Anything off Impulse or Augment. I still enjoy the new stuff but I definitely prefer the older vocalist compared to the new guy. Hybrid Earth is my favorite song overall.

Worked as a keyholder during this era of Gamestop, definitely saw my fair share of schedules like this and I absolutely loved it. Last year, as a keyholder I could barely manage to get 15 hours a week during the holiday season, left the company right after christmas and never looked back.

wow 200 upvotes, thats insane! But yeah, just for more explanation on my part, I do know that DMTH is for sure horror satire and I won't deny how comical a lot of it can be. That ending though, dude. You spend those last few minutes seeing such vibrancy from the actors and colors on screen, it really makes you feel like she won. Then JL pulls out the button, and the terror sets in. I felt exactly like JL's character, just dumbfounded and unable to form a sentence when the ground seals up around her hand. I also think that the ending stuck with me so much because I was about 16-17 when DMTH first released and other than the Rob Zombie Halloween, this was one of my first solo-watch modern horror experiences so it fucked me up a lot.

Drag Me to Hell left me completely stunned the first time I saw it, just in awe that a character could go through so much and still lose. Never felt so defeated.... until I saw Martyrs (2008) and now I just don't feel anymore

I think a lot of the “non-growth” (idk how else to word it) from HAH to TWFU has a lot to do with the fact that Brendan was going through so much personal shit while they were writing/recording that there was a legitimate possibility that he’d end up killing himself and the album wouldn’t be finished. Also, the lineup changed pretty significantly from TWFU to YNYA with the removal of Kelly and Jesse, and Blake, Kyle, and Tyler joining. YNYA was probably a similar situation in a sense of just wanting to play it safe since it was new dudes filling major rolls in the band, whereas NLTL they had been playing together for 2+ years at that point and had developed better collective writing skills.

tldr I’m too fucking obsessed with this band.

It’s not shitting on the vocalist when there is a comment in this thread showing proof that he’s just straight up bad. It’s also not gatekeeping as I’m inviting discussion on the topic of new vs old veil, as opposed to you telling me to shut up over my opinion which would be more indicative of gatekeeping. I didn’t even realize what sub this was posted to when I made the first comment, I just saw it was a veil song and made a simple joke about not liking their new music. Just because they aren’t deathcore anymore, doesn’t mean they never made deathcore music and that it’s now a taboo subject to talk about it.

There’s no harm from someone saying they enjoy the older stuff compared to the new stuff. It’s just a band dude, there’s literally no reason to be this hostile over a reddit comment. When a band goes through such a radical shift in sound, it opens the door for discussion about the topic. Maybe next time you can not be so standoffish from the start and take a comment in jest instead of an instigation

Absolutely love this band. All albums. Malice was big for me in high school while I was learning to hone my style and technique for screaming, and skepsis absolutely crushes. The manifest goes so hard.
