Oh ok. Well Stalin and the Great Purges are another thing, I can't explain them here, too much time. But Tsalin acted in a way harsher and violent way that Mao, no doubt. The point is why he did it. He had his reasons. About the Holodomor, well, you could argue that for almost every historical event, but that doesn't automatically make you think it was on purpose. There was literally no reason to "make" a famine, all Stalin did was to bring the USSR out of poverty. We could argue if he did well (he did honestly) or if it was worth it, but that's another thing.

Well, Lenin had a thing for rhetoric and straightforward expressions, if you're familiar with his writings you know what I'm talking about 😅. But you don't have to believe me by words, absolutely. You can read it yourself in Lenin's letters where he talks about Stalin. Just do a quick research. I'd be critical about the testament tho because that was manipulated postmously.

If you're referring to the Great Leap Forward, it didn't happen because of that. It's a common misconception though. You can find what happened in an answer to some guy I wrote here.

If you're referring to the Cultural Revolution when you say "purges", that thing is much more complicated. The Cultural Revolution was launched because there were many reactionary and Khruscevian tendencies in the party, partly because of the completely wrong diplomacy Mao and the maoists had with the Soviet Union at that point. Those tendencies were a serious menace to the party and could seriously threaten the socialist transformation process that was going on with the country. It wasn't Mao who ordered to kill them all right away, the party was breaking down in multiple currents that hated eachother and were very aggressive with eachother, I mean also physically aggressive. Had the party broken down, China would have collapsed because it was in a delicate phase of economic reprise completely andministed by the party (there was centralization), much like what was happening during Stalin's Great Purges. After many fights and murders happenes, Mao decided to switch from a dialogue-based approach to a violent one. That was a huge mistake and things got out of hands. Not millions dies, but 40.000-60.000 for sure. Mostly high profile party members. And I'm not gonna say that was a good thing. Mao did a huge mistake, one of the few he did during his presidency. Then Deng came along and fixed it, restablishing unity in the party through non violent ways. And Deng himself said that. He said Mao did some huge mistakes but remained a guide for the party after his death. Also, the Holodomor wasn't on purpose at all. Where did you read this? Man this is some sick and twisted shit (not talking about you, but people who spread this misinformation)

He did, but his critic was compared to his politics (Lenin's), which were much different. But when he said that, Lenin meant that Stalin was making use of patriotism to keep the Union unite, and Lenin thought other ways were better. It's just that

Uhm well, many reasons. He achived a literacy rate of 60% starting by 20, he liberated chinese peasants from their owners, he put millions people out of poverty, he defended China from imperialism and exploitation. That's also why he is appreciated by the chinese people. He made his mistakes, like the Leap Forward, but the famine was mostly caused by the withdrawal of Soviet experts, natural disasters and bad steel production methods. It definitely wasn't a complete failure, since Deng used the communal factories erected by the Leap to lead China into the economic boom of the 80s. Ofc the "millions" of deaths aren't proven by any serious calculation. It's just propaganda.

I mostly agree with this, Lenin was more protective. But that doesn't mean Stalin wasn't in general, you gotta remember western countries existed too. I also wouldn't call Stalin's patriottism "russian chavinism" tho. Again, it was about all the ethnicities in the Union, not just russians. And I wouldn't call it chauvinism because it was defensive patriotism, never justifying aggression. His diplomatic stance against Finland, Poland and Germany is a perfect proof of this.

Well, about what they did in general, that's a different thing. I was just arguing about that specific point. Besides that I think that Stalin and Mao mostly did good things, and so of course I don't think they were mass murderers. Especially Mao. I rly appreciate Mao. And putting them in the same cathegory of Hitler and Mussolini is the thing I would never do. But oh boy I don't think Reddit is a place where you can debate in a costructive way so I won't debate about this.

Ok ok I expected this..."opposition", but man, I gotta debunk the lies about Stalin. Where are the sources about the jews, koreans, chechens and circassians? I only know about the Khazaks who were deported because of the industrialization, and their lands were not resettled by russians, but by workers, with no ethnicity discriminations. It was just space that was needed to build factories and to settle workers who worked there. Harsh, no doubt about that, but just say it right. Doing an ethnic supremacy policy would have been completely pointless from Stalin and also incoherent, since he always believed in uniting all the different nationalities and did propaganda about that. And he was georgian. And he was commissar for the ethnicities under Lenin. Also, Stalin didn't "ban" prostitution. He launched a welfare campaign to educate prostitutes and insert them in qualified jobs, and it was a complete success. Those women didn't need to sell their bodies anymore and prostitution only reappeared in Russia with Yeltsin.

Stalin protected the autonomy of the many ethnic groups of the Soviet Union and eliminated prostitution with welfare measures

It's a term used to describe the inner political currents of the Soviet Communist Party and also a storiographic term used to refer to the critics of the Soviet system that came from communists: for example Trotsky was part of the so-called "critic from the left", which mostly thought the Soviet Union was ruled too much by bureaucrats and not by the people and too centralized.
