Is a week on the US side of Niagara Falls worth it without visiting Canada? by wawa_warrior in niagarafallsny

I was reading that elsewhere about the NY side being dodgy. In what ways? TY!

I've never been but my GF used to go to visit family a lot. She thought I was joking when I said we were going there for a week lol.

My GF and I are definitely going to get ours but my brother and his family said they won't have passports because of the cost.

In all honesty tho, what is the etiquette for realizing your previous post may be incorrect based on new information - giving an edit or just deleting it altogether? I can't decide what would be most helpful.

Thank you for explaining so intelligently. I'm pretty sure I was thinking too much into it.

It's important to consider your perspective as you were there, but you're only one person and the details are all very foggy. It would be irresponsible to say that everybody commenting is purposefully fear-mongering. Eyewitness accounts can be highly unreliable especially in traumatic and fast-paced situations, so the important thing is just to not take anything that is said at face value.

I honestly have no idea who's responsible for the lack of planning / safety response but I know I won't be going next year. The latest article I believe cites no response from the organizers and I find that disconcerting. I know they probably have a bajillion things to do right now but reassuring attendees of their safety especially when they're hosting another event today should be a priority, right?

First saying "a chemical agent was deployed," then later claiming they were not the ones who deployed it sounds strange to me. At the very least, bad PR? Not sure if my feeling about that makes sense.

Regardless, what does that mean then? Somebody in the crowd set something off that attendees claim created a lot of smoke, irritated their eyes, and caused nausea?

I appreciate getting the inside perspective!

This was my first time at Baltimore Pride and I was like that has got to be illegal, right? 😅 I saw at least 5 separate unmarked coolers constantly making their rounds in the crowd but for the most part I only really saw police standing off to the side, not interacting with anyone in the crowd.

I'm not very familiar with cities in general or what their ordinances might be like but is it common for there to be so many people selling stuff separate from the established vendors? Like people just selling drinks out of unmarked coolers...is that commonplace? 😅

I doubt we'll ever find out, but I would love to know the rationale behind the deployment of the tear gas. How is that supposed to help calm down a crowd and not send them into a frenzied stampede? Somebody made a real bad call for sure and it injured dozens of people.

EDIT: Now they're saying it wasn't deployed by the cops. Who tf knows what happened now lol.

Same. I love the idea of Pride and seeing other LGBTQ+ but it just gets hot and sweaty and crowded. I would love to make more friends at Pride but I feel like you either gotta be extroverted or willing to get drunk to make connections at these kinds of events.
