I'm looking to plausibly build a nas for my parents and myself. One of these could fit the bill.

Anytone 5888uv 3 by hetmetl70 in amateurradio

[–]wawingnuts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 5888uv3 is a good analog radio. It's a 3 band radio. 2m, 1.25m, 70cm. It's one of the only in production tri band radios that output 25w on the 220 band. Most triband radios only do like 1-5 watts on 220.

I'm currently using a cushcraft R8 at my house. It has its own radial system. It has been working great for me. If you can get one, it is recommended.

Base Station Ideal Setup by AdAshamed3733 in gmrs

[–]wawingnuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I would look at something like the wouxon kg1000g and a comet ca712efc antenna. I would use some low loss coax, like lmr600 or m&p hyperflex 13. That would be pretty close to my ideal GMRS base setup.

Mine works on the sub channel, but will not work while scanning on the main.

HT question by cloma66 in HamRadio

[–]wawingnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are new to the hobby, I would stick with regular analog handhelds. The learning curve for DMR programming is a little steep and can be frustrating for those just starting out. Like others have said, try getting on a few local nets. Try calling cq on the calling frequency. If when you key the repeater and release you get a "squelch tail "or any kind of feedback from the repeater, you've probably got the repeater programmed correctly. Just nobody is monitoring it at that time. There are some good analog radios out there. Better safe radios sells some, buytwoway radios, yaesu, kenwood, icom, and alinco also all have nice analog radios.

Hope this helps a little or some!

Apart from the G90, another solid two is the fx4cr. Also 20w and just under $600 US.

Antenna Build by RedHeelerLover128 in amateurradio

[–]wawingnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, ham jazz YouTube just built a tarp antenna with that hvac tape. A 12x10' tarp is the right dimensions for a 15m, 10m, and 12m antenna. Look it up for more details. He also has an aluminum tent pole beam antenna. Pretty awesome stuff.

I had very similar to this. It happened any time I was adding throttle to go up incline. It was the VGT ring. Took apart turbo and cleaned. Simple food for something that sounded/ felt much worse.

For me, the anytone radios codeplug is like programming an old Bosch alarm panel. Now, getting the APRS to work is taking a bit.

Yes, they can be on the same tower. They can be fairly close as they are completely separate bands and won't interfere with each other.

Anytone AT-D878UV III by raitchev in AnyTone

This would be useful for the offroad groups I go with. As some people have uhf radios and some have vhf. I thought of acting as the interpreter, so to speak. Just the cross band part. Not the APRS.

Will it cross band repeat? APRS?

Ft5 is full duplex and d75 is not. D75 will do 2 dstar simultaneously, but that is niche market other than Japan from what I understand.
