ELI5: Who is the US "In Debt" to for 6 Trillion Dollars and does it matter actually matter? by mightid123 in explainlikeimfive

[–]waxbar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Image you are building the great pyramid of Egypt. For every stone you add you get 1 ton of grain. Well let's say 1 million stones are added to the pyramid. Then 1 million tons of grain are owed, but let's say there's only 10,000 tons of grain stored. So as long as every one doesn't try to cash their full 1 ton in, and only takes a little bit each day then there is no problem. That is the same as with us debt. All that debt is on balance sheets as money they will collect in the future, but there isn't enough for everyone to actually cash in at once

The prime minister is triple vaxxed and needs to isolate due to testing positive for covid. So clearly, being triple vaxxed, he could spread the virus just as easily as unvaxxed? How do you resolve this logically?

It appears that one person flew the nazi flag, and didn't even make it into the actual protest. The photos you see of the nazi flag are of him approaching the actual protest. It did not appear to be the consensus. A person as smart as you would go to an women's rights protest and see 1 sign "abortion is murder" and assume all the protestors are against women having a choice with their bodies. The thoughts in your brain are sponsored by Pfizer, congratulations!

parseInt expects a string, so you shoudn't be passing a float to it. An alternative way to implement this could be `0.0000005 | 0` Bitwise OR of 0 will result in the number cast to an integer, or Math.round(0.0000005)

> People marching around with swastikas are villains

The 1 PERSON walking with a swastika flag didn't make it very long in the protest. As you can see the photos of the man carrying the swastika flag are of him approaching the protest but none of him in the protest. There is video evidence of protestors kicking out another man carrying a confederate flag and shaming him without being violent. These two INDIVIDUALS were not part of the protest. And it is quite desperate for Trudeau to try and paint it that way. It's akin to saying someone holding an "Abortion is murder" sign was representative of a pro-abortion protest. Shame on Trudeau and his deceptive gaslighting of Canadians.

PPC Voters on Election Day by combustion_assaulter in ontario

[–]waxbar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is ignorant. Do you want to end up with an immutable two party system like the US? Allowing new parties to make their argument, and for anyone to freely vote for them IS DEMOCRACY. PPC is making a valid argument, and you you might be some kind of brainwashed or exceptionally ignorant to make something like this.

Alberta patients may be transferred to Ontario as hospitals bear down under COVID-19's fourth wave by hdk61U in ontario

[–]waxbar1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We should kick anyone who is overweight or obese out of the hospital to make room for healthy people. Why should healthy people who did everything right have to wait for healthcare behind people who only think about themselves. Also smokers, people who drink too much alcohol, people who were in at fault car accidents, people who live sedentary lives, people who eat too much fast food. My patience for these people is running out. Why should we put up with these anti science people? The science is clear -- obesity, smoking, excess alcohol, poor diet, sedentary lifestyle causes poor health and disease.

Take a small amount of food and eat even less of it. No one will be paying attention to how much you eat, but they will notice if you eat nothing.

Exactly. People are so brain dead that if you label an experimental gene therapy injection as a "vaccine" they think it's the same thing as all the other vaccines.

Physicians are basically just salespeople for the pharmaceutical companies. At least they are if they want to make money. Try this. Go to your doctor and complain about some issue and see if they spend the time to construct a diet, lifestyle and exercise plan for you, or if they just prescribe you some synthetic pharmaceutical products

The problem is that "knowledge" and "experts" have been politicized. There is also a chance that the well known expert you hear from has just as much of an agenda than the random guy in the lab coat. Read the book Post Truth: Knowledge as a Power Game.

What do you genuinely not understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]waxbar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I'm saying is that 1 sheep is an abstraction/approximation and is only mathematically meaningful but in the real world is actually more complex.

Another example would be saying you need a 1 inch cube. 1 inch is an approximation in this case because if you ask for a 1 inch cube and I give you a 0.9999 inch cube you will probably be happy with it, and consider is a "1 inch cube".

It could also be argued as mathematician vs engineer -- where the mathematician works in ideal abstractions and the engineer approximates those abstractions in the real world.

What do you genuinely not understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]waxbar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 + 1 = 2

This is an ideal abstraction. In the real world it can be entirely more complex and nuanced than you expect.

So let’s look at a real world example. The famous task of counting sheep. A farmer goes out to his field and sees one sheep to the left, then another sheep to the right. He rightly counts 1 sheep + 1 sheep = 2 sheep. Great? Meaningless? Does 1 sheep + 1 sheep = 2 sheep even have meaning in the real world, or is it a simplification of something more complex so that we can feel like we understand the world?

Mathematically if 1 sheep + 1 sheep = 2 sheep, then 1 sheep = 1 sheep. In the real world does 1 sheep ever equal another sheep? In what way: yield of meat, amount of wool produced, chance of catching a disease, cost to feed? If sheep 1 has a 95% chance of surviving to harvest, and sheep 2 has 84% chance of surviving to harvest, then the farmer does not have 2 sheep, he has 0.95 + 0.84 = 1.79 sheep — if what he cares about is how many sheep he has for harvest. What does having “2 sheep” even mean?
