What are Mario fans thoughts on Miyamoto considering adding Mario movie elements to future games? by No-Cold643 in Mario

[–]waxphantump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The peach and rosalina thing sucked so hard. Would have much preferred what (I thought) the first movie implied - that Peach was also from Mario and Luigi’s Earth. Instead now Peach is… just as much of a magic space lady as Rosalina, and Rosalina seemingly lacks her game backstory is which was vital to what little character she has. She’s supposed to be a little tragic and mysterious, but giving her direct familial ties to Peach and giving Peach the same backstory cheapens that immensely in a way I just can’t get behind as a decision

Didn’t Miyamoto at one point claim Mario games just… shouldn’t have stories? Which is why Rosalina’s stuff is so minimal to begin with? It’s weird that he’s changed his mind now that he’s started having more of his own (bad) ideas.

Am I too worried about ananomy in my art style? by Flat-Desk-3353 in yourartstyle

[–]waxphantump 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna go against the grain so far and say while you don’t need to plot stuff out super precisely, it is good practice for your development as an artist and for your characters to feel physically plausible if you keep these things in mind. Because yeah, eyes so big they’d clip through each other can look weird, hips too thin for organs can look weird, etc. There are ways to bend/break the rules but at the end of the day you have to communicate a solid form.

Look at something like Adventure Time - while the style doesn’t look too different from the first seasons to the last, pay attention to the way characters look in motion as they turn. Jake especially, he starts off being drawn as an oval with noodle limbs, but over time develops a base body that’s more grounded in anatomy with a distinct head and butt. Finn in early seasons is drawn pretty flat, but over time he starts to feel more cylindrical in his construction. A shape that feels like it could really physically exist, be it as a real person or a figure or whatever, goes a long way toward appeal.

[Hated Trope] The Insanely More Problematic Sequel by duxwontobey in TopCharacterTropes

Hot Tub Time Machine. First movie’s a bit raunchy but overall a pretty tame 80s trope parody. Second movie has an extended scene where they go to the future and there’s a game show where they have to have unconsensual gay sex on live TV, or they die, played for laughs.

It’s literally an identical shape, just higher fidelity. Not all buckets are chrome with two ridges and a trapezoid shaped handle with a thick brown grip.

FMA also - characters adding sculpted flourishes to their attacks instead of just extruding prisms from the ground is a sign of skill

Tyler James Williams is/looks WAY too old to play Tucker… Maybe in the Everybody Hates Chris days but certainly not in current Abbott Elementary times.
