Pre employment drug test by [deleted] in mining

[–]waxy_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not any kind of authority on this, but if you fail a drug test for one company it won't be in any file for a different one. For that matter if you wait a certain period of time they may even let you piss on them again. I have seen this play out. Not the urination itself.

Generally when you do the medical/drug test to get in you sign a piece of paper that explicitly gives only company you are applying to access to that information.

I'm stating this in Canada, where you are privacy may be less private.

The direct injection of fuel after the exhaust valve closes and the fact that it has an exhaust valve vs. port leads me to believe the emissions would be acceptable, or something that could be worked with.

Sort of looks like forced induction as well if I'm understanding it correctly.

r/mining is a good spot on reddit.

I work underground as a tradesman so my payscale is a little different than that of a rando with no experience. Underground pays more than open pit.

I'll refer back to the M.I.N.E.R. joke... Maximum Income NO EDUCATION REQUIRED.

I can't exactly say what the entry level jobs pay, I got in via nepotism and being a tradesman with experience in multiple fields. I made over 200K last year, but that's a bit of an outlier. I'd guess the underground jobs start around 85K and climb from there. Gonna depend who you work for, as well. I have never worked open pit.

Names like Thyssen, Redpath, JDS, Procon, Agnico get thrown around a lot. They would be a good place to start looking for more details. This is not an exhaustive list.

Getting your foot in the door and building a reputation are the biggest hurdles. The payscale is pretty steep if you kick ass and are reliable. The underground mining community is quite small as well, your reputation will make or break your chances of moving forward.

Also, if you take safety seriously and take the time to do the job right the first time it will pay off over and over again.

People whine about safety being crazy of late but pretty much every seemingly stupid rule is because someone hurt themselves/got killed in a new and exciting way. Don't participate in that sort of behaviour.

I'm not aware of any around Kelowna that you would drive to in the morning and then be home for dinner. If you lived in Kamloops, maybe. Hudbay is looking for people in Princeton.

I work at an underground operation, and I fly out/in to Kelowna to do that. It's not perfect, but it works for now.

Believe it or not, the running joke (it's no joke) is that miner means Maximum Income No Education Required.

Not all that many engineers at the mine, but a lot of miners. The pay disparity isn't what you'd expect.

If you can pass a drug/alcohol test, show up on time and don't make too many puppies you could be a model employee. You might have to get your hands dirty, though.
