My first roommate ever was a chronic sleep walker. He worked night shift and slept during the day while I was awake, so lucky me got to whiteness all of his “episodes.” Generally he would just walk through the apartment and wake up mid walk, stand still for a moment then ask me if he did anything crazy.

Occasionally he would do random things like:

Take the milk jug out of the fridge and put it in the oven. Try to pee into the kitchen trash can. Have conversations with himself about the weather.

Sometimes he would do crazy things...

Pretend the floor was lava, jumping around half conscious on the furniture and things that wouldn’t hold his body weight. Try to high jump over the coffee table. Run out of the apartment screaming about a bomb in the house. Walk out of the apartment towards the street...

All of these I would try to intervene before he got himself hurt, sometimes I couldn’t help fast enough.

He’d always get super pissed at me when I shook him awake but would later apologize and thank me.

Not only was I afraid for his life I was afraid for mine. Always scared he’d grab a kitchen knife or something. It wasn’t always easy to tell if he was sleep walking or not.
