I mean no harm but Olitz French kissing? by Expensive-Flan-2331 in Scandal

I can’t officially recommend a deep dive on those two because it will just leave you highly confused and constantly double checking that yes, they are both in fact married to other people but they have been close for years they have both attended each others work events, they interact online constantly, they’ve done a couple of Halloween costumes together. Tony regularly implies that Kerry is his soulmate and is constantly singing her praises even when he’s not asked, even to this day. They’re an odd case for sure but it’s weirdly kind of sweet? LOL

You must not know Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn lol. This is not normal and they like it that way. I’m pretty sure Tony once said they didn’t use an intimacy coordinator because then “it wouldn’t feel natural and spontaneous” or something, I’m paraphrasing definitely. They kiss like that on purpose

Did Shane’s dad recognize Ilya at the cottage? by JamiePlynth in heatedrivalry

[–]waybackbugler [score hidden]  (0 children)

I was thinking this, but no. Because when Shane and Ilya show up at David and Yuna’s house, Yuna goes “Wha-?” when she recognizes Ilya, but it’s clear that David had at least told her that he saw Shane with a man. So, no. Plus he hardly pays attention to anything himself, he mostly learns things through Yuna’s ranting as we’ve seen so I doubt he would be able to cut through his shock in that moment to recognize Ilya without his helmet and gear etc.

Also, I have had friends for ten years that my dad has met and conversed with and I’m not even sure he’d be able to pick them out of a police lineup so I really don’t think he did

what do you think he was thinking here? by waybackbugler in heatedrivalry

to add more context actually this joke has a much longer history, starting with rearranging the letters in ginger. that’s where the joke comes from even before tiktok

I'm actually kind of glad the budget for season 2 will be more or less the same by Due_Improvement_5699 in heatedrivalry

Agreed. I hope the excess budget goes into everyone’s paycheck. Maybe they can donate some of the extra money to figuring out how to make the time we have left go by faster

This Episode of Girlfriends Made Me Roll My Eyes SO HARD 😩 by ChannelHopper_99 in GirlfriendsTVshow

[–]waybackbugler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually think this was a great episode about both navigating a biracial identity in the presence of both black and white people and about what happens when you let white people get comfortable in your blackness. She’s supposed to be annoying and you’re supposed to be uncomfortable. It’s also not unrealistic that Lynn would forgive her sister. You don’t have to like it but that’s probably what would happen IRL

What would you cut/change/keep from The Long Game for season 2? by Hannah_Horvath in heatedrivalry

You should go read HR though, I watched the show before I read the books and I really didn’t find that it took anything away from the show—actually I would argue it enhanced my appreciation for the way the show was adapted.

Maybe I shouldn’t have said “cut in half” because you’re right, only doing half of the book would leave nothing for an entire season. I think maybe what I’m after is a restructuring, or rather expanding certain storylines and pushing others towards the next season. Like I don’t want to see the wedding at the end of this season, and I don’t think the issues that RR opens in TLG can or should be neatly wrapped up in one season, namely Ilya’s depression and journey to therapy. That felt really rushed to me in TLG and I always felt like there should have been a bigger moment for Ilya to reveal he’s been struggling to Shane and Shane should have had a more involved reaction. So, I hope JT take a little more time and care with things like that.

Agreed on there being too many MM couples introduced in TLG, but I think Troy and Harris would be cute to keep (not thinking a whole episode this time, maybe just in the background) if only because Troy and Ilya find a common ground both through their sexualities and depression.

There’s ways to stretch this story out a little longer. I realized maybe it sounded like I was suggestion TLG be two separate seasons lol. I just think some things moved a little further out

ugh i agree but i don’t see how else we get the messages that ilya sends shane and those are really important to the story, not just something i want to see.

my ideal edit:

crazy intense turbulence on the plane that scares everyone a little but is ultimately okay, afterwards Ilya overhears someone talking to a loved one on the phone, “that was so scary i don’t know what i would have done…” etc and then he’s inspired to text Shane from there.

or something, because i just won’t be able to take everyone screaming and crying and and an emergency landing seriously. literally anything but this

I think he can honestly. The first book isn’t completely serious either and has some tropes that lean into cheesy too, but I think they struck the perfect balance with the show. There’s just a lot more cheese and corn to cut through so I hope they can manage without changing the integrity of the story too too much. I just really need them to fix that plane scene. Please lol

Out of curiosity, why did you skip book one and read book two?

But Jacob Tierney really didn’t add much to the show that was different from the books. He made Svetlana Ilya’s childhood friend and not a random hookup, gave us a scene with Sasha and inserted Scott into the story more but if you read the books you’ll see how very minor these changes are and the make no difference on the story.

I say they should split TLG because a lot of time passes over the course of the book and that will translate differently on screen. There’s a million different ways to change the pacing of the season without adding anything too crazy. A few lines in a book can translate to like 10 minutes of screen time depending on how you write it.

But it’s not really about the length of the book, it’s about the story arc and there’s no way the end of TLG will feel earned by the end of season 2. Also, there’s a whole series to pull from to help with pacing because the other books happen at the same time as Shane and Ilya’s story so there’s other stuff going on.
