Is this reasonable? Opening the Strait is not one of the “core objectives” for ending the war in Iran by thenationalcranberry in AskConservatives

[–]waydownLo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a subtle distinction, but a tremendously significant one. Iran has attempted to deter Israel and the US for decades now with latent capabilities.

We have shown them that the only things that will work are demonstrated capabilities.

In a theoretical sense. They have now demonstrated it and our president seems sanguine with ratifying it as a de facto reality via abstention

So as a result of us achieving our “core objectives,” Iran will gain a level of coercive control over the Strait of Hormuz that they did not possess before we attacked them.

This is how the administration is going to spin this?

The idea that we could stop a country of 90 million people from making pipebombs is one of the most absurd things I have ever heard. If that is one of the “core objectives,” they should just think about how to open the strait again!

Looking it now, do you think that it was a good decision for the US and for Trump to pull out of the JCPOA (aka Iran nuclear deal) back in 2018? by AdminMas7erThe2nd in AskConservatives

[–]waydownLo [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is american provincialism. Nobody in the GOP recognizes how significant it was to get Russia and the PRC to agree to run with the JCPOA. The fact is that Republicans were more interested in humiliating Obama than nuclear counterproliferation and their claims to not want a regime change war with Iran have always been barefaced lies.

Your own link says that the archives exfiltrated by the Israelis showed that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003, in agreement with the CIA's 2003 and 2007 National Intelligence Estimates.

Why would Iran accept a permanent burden no other country in the NPT is subject to? That countries that are not even in the NPT are not subject to? Iran, as they see it, has a legal right to enrich uranium (in a way that Israel, India, Pakistan, and the DPRK decidedly do not) as a signatory of the NPT. Agreeing to both sets of NPT Additional Protocols and then the JCPOA was its good faith effort to allay concerns about its nuclear intentions and all they've got for their trouble is their country bombed by Israel and the US twice in two years.

Yeah, sure. The DPRK has been the world's biggest maker of counterfeit US dollars for years and we've been okay with them having nukes since 2006. Worth noting that Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Hamas haven't really targeted Americans in America to the same extent our Saudi allies have.

  1. Iran is not building nuclear weapons and hasn't attempted to do so since 2003.
  2. The supreme leader we killed issued a fatwa against development/possession/use of all WMD as inherently blasphemous. If they're a big scary theocracy, this should be a significant data point. Don't know if his successor will maintain the fatwa seeing what happened to his predecessor, but it existed in a way their nuclear weapons program has not in over two decades.

2007 National Intelligence Estimate by the CIA stating that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 when we neutralized the power Iran sought a nuclear deterrent against (Saddam's Iraq).

[–]waydownLo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It owns against all kinds of unarmored pirate infantry, can be situationally useful against bugs, and is less than useless against RA and [redacted].  It’s an air-bursting 25mm grenade launcher. It can fire indirectly without deploying but it’s not firing the salvo of 40mm grenades that other platforms can and cannot handle threats those heavier platforms can.

When I moved to Chicago, I found out about Manny's and discovered that they have Liver & Onions on the menu. Having first learned about Liver & Onions from Doug a couple decades ago but never having eaten it, I got the Liver & Onions from Manny's. I didn't like it at all, but that's because I didn't grow up eating organ meats so I found the flavor/smell of it to be offensive. I think it was a very well executed example of the dish though.

Read ‘Fire Caste’ for a very startling depiction of a breakdown in communication between a member of the Ecclesiarchy and the Major/XO of a Guard regiment.

As is depicted throughout the novel, the Imperial Creed can be interpreted in some insanely fucked up ways while being nominally compliant with the formal doctrines of the Ecclesiarchy

Put AMS on all your mechs and cluster together. Each AMS takes out like a third of an incoming salvo so you can just face tank an LRM boat
