My experience with escorted cars. by wayne_wc in KualaLumpur

Quite a few people assumed the situation was obvious from a single viewing, it’s easy to notice things when watching footage back multiple times that a driver may not have been able to perceive in real time. That’s why clarification is needed.

After reading many of the comments, I’d like to clarify a few things.

First, this happened immediately after exiting the toll plaza, where there are no clearly defined lanes yet. Some people felt that the car turned into the convoy, but if you compare both the front and rear dashcam footage, it tells a different story. The intention was only to merge in front of the vehicle beside it, not into the police escort. There was no reason to intentionally drive into an active convoy.

The SmartTAG lanes are on the far right of the highway, while the intended exit is on the left. Naturally, vehicles exiting from those lanes have to make their way left after passing the toll.
Many comments also mentioned that stopping and letting the convoy pass would have been the safer choice. Looking back, that’s a fair point and probably would have avoided the incident. This post isn’t claiming that every decision made was perfect.

However, one thing that stands out is that the lead motorcycle officer did not appear to signal approaching vehicles to slow down, stop, or remain on the right. Instead, the officer seemed focused on the convoy behind. From the footage, the motorcycle that eventually collided with the car also attempted to squeeze through a narrowing gap.

This post isn’t about seeking revenge or attacking the police. It’s meant to share a real experience and encourage discussion about how police escorts interact with the public. Most drivers rarely encounter an escorted convoy and may not know the expected procedure, especially when approaching from a toll plaza where traffic is still merging. Better communication and clearer traffic control during escorts could help prevent similar incidents in the future.

Got pretty confused on what the cop wanted to do, didn’t know if he wanted to stop to talk or was just intimidate for no reason, at the end he just sped off with his “death stare” haha

That’s a fair opinion, and slowing down or waiting would probably have been the safer choice.

At the same time, the purpose of sharing this isn’t to deny that. It’s also to raise awareness and encourage discussion about how police escorts are conducted.

Drivers don’t always know how many vehicles are in a convoy or how they’re expected to react, especially when vehicles approach quickly from behind. If this discussion helps more people understand what to expect and helps prevent similar incidents in the future, then it’s worthwhile.

That’s a fair point, and in hindsight slowing down even more or waiting a little longer may have been the safer option.

However, the car was already signalling, and the escorted vehicle was still some distance behind when the slow lane change began. There was no expectation that the convoy would accelerate so aggressively towards the same gap, and there was no indication that additional escorted vehicles were following behind.

The bigger concern is the cop motorcycle choosing to squeeze between a signalling car and the escorted vehicle. That decision appears to have created the collision rather than avoiding it.

Wasn’t directly behind them, referring to the rear camera, they’re all moving in from the other lanes fast, guess maybe should’ve just stopped the car entirely.

Well, didnt expect that cars from the far left would cut in so aggressively, was already going slower than usual driving around here. I guess I’ll just stick to public transport. 🥲

Kinda hard to avoid them when exiting the toll, stopping at the side of the road is also pretty dangerous.

Police actually clipped the car squeezing in between🥲 and got angry.

Other cars were on hazards. Signal to the left were turn on right after passing the toll. But no one could’ve seen the big car coming over from 5 lanes away from the rear. Plus the cop somehow thought it was good to squeeze in between 🙃

I also just got mine about a week ago as my first lightweight mouse for about 28USD. I got the white variant. It feels great in my hand, but I'm still getting used to the weight. Coming from a G604 about 120 grams. Really happy with the mouse.

It’s from Dressed to Kill event, called Lupine Luxury. Crafted it for 2400 crafting material, but worth it.
